The SEC is already the top football and baseball conference. When will we decide to make it a trifecta and put serioues effort into bball. UK and UF can only carry us so far.

Probably when football is abolished.

LSU's trying, but it's hard to get sports fans in small towns to care about more than one or two sports at a time. There's only so much time that can be devoted to going to games and only so much money that can be spent on tickets and such.

Let's face it, if you're an Auburn fan and you can afford football OR basketball tickets, which are you going to choose?

Too many schools care more about baseball than basketball which I think is a huge problem

No one gives a shite about baseball nationally. Might as well invest in the more relevant sport nationwide.

Hopefully soon, but I'm beginning to fear UGA's administration will never care about basketball and they'll only care about UGA's football program enough to ensure that the money still flows in.

I think they've shown they do care. A hell of a lot more than they cared 15 years ago anyway. Our problem is we just don't have a big time, dynamic coach. We'll either get a hella coach but poor recruiter (harrick) or a great recruiter and poor coach (felton). Fox is kind of in that middle area, he recruits moderately well and coaches moderately well, but isn't great at either. Building a $30M practice facility (that at the time was one of the best in the country) and making the improvements to stegeman has shown that we care.

You must be very young.

The proper question to as is will will SEC basketball return to the level it was in the past.

Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri (yes, I know they just joined), LSU, Tennessee, and Alabama all have 20 or more NCAA tournament appearances.

Kentucky, Arkansas, LSU, Florida, and Mississippi State all have final 4 appearances since the 1992 expansion.

From 1999 to 2008, (when the league was 12 teams) the SEC averaged 6 teams in the NCAA tourney each year, never sent fewer than 5, and sent as many as 8 (75% of the conference).

We've never been the ACC but recent suckage notwithstanding, SEC basketball has historically been pretty good.

We've only been to one FF and it was in 83.

They will take it seriously when fans fill up the arenas. There are not many schools that have a lot of success in both football and basketball. Wisconsin might be a good example. SEC just isn't good at the roundball

I know this is a chicken and the egg argument, but at UGA we've proven throughout our history that we simply won't fill the arenas unless we're good. We did it under tubby, we did it under harrick.

if "so far" means National Titles, then as a conference, who cares?

You're correct. I was going to make it all with a final 4 trip, but decided to go with post expansion and forgot to take y'all out of the list.

Going to fix it now.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that basketball just isn't a big deal in most areas of the south. Most of the athletes play football and baseball growing up and basketball is just something to pass the time. In places like Indiana and North Carolina, every kid grows up playing basketball. Same thing applies in your large urban areas. Also, the brand of basketball played in most southern high schools is really sloppy fundamentally and it translates to the college game.

Auburn has already sold out of season tickets in basketball from what I have read. We might not be great this year, but we will be pretty good in the future as long as Pearl sticks around
