Blake Sims is leading and obviously has really impressed Saban who said that Blake has developed beyond what he thought he could at some point. The qb will be named prior to or during game week.

It will be Blake Sims... Saban is not going to drag a qb battle out for 3 or 4 games. Coker is still struggling obviously and it takes more than a strong arm to be a QB. Blake has the respect and chemistry of the team and that will also play a bigger roll than some Bama fans care to admit.

He's not.

Truth. Sims has improved.

Define what you mean here. Sims will start vs WVU no matter what. He was always going to. Doesn't mean he's the guy. He's gotta earn it just like Coker does.

Maybe

He's got no problem taking it through the first three. Bama is expected to run over all three, and none of them are true away games like PSU was in 2011. If it isn't clear who should be the guy, it'll go until it is or until the Florida game.

quote:

Coker is still struggling obviously

Um, no? Every indication this week has been that Coker is making major strides, and it seems more and more obvious that he's going to be the guy eventually.

quote:

Yep.

You think Saban would let the team decide who the QB is? I know that isn't exactly what you said, but there is a reason both will play early. Saban is going to throw them both to the dogs, and whoever proves he's better on the field will be the guy. If Coker is the better option, he'll be the guy. No respect Sims has will change that. If anyone would get pissy about it, they don't belong here.

It's a battle. Either will be a good choice. I have my reasons for wanting both to win. I'd hate to see either not start. It will be a battle that will be decided by in game performance. When I really look at it, my reasons for wanting Blake to be the guy are personal. He's the guy I like more because he's been here for 5 years and has worked his arse off for the team. But when you remove what you feel personally and look at all the recent info, Coker seems like the guy.

good post. I think it's blakes team at this point.

Bama doesn't need a play maker at QB to win a lot of games though

What about it? I said in that thread that we're optimistic he may reach his potential. Doesn't mean we think he will. He's not at his potential right now. IF he is even the QB, there will be a lot of bumps with him.

I know you don't remember saban's last year at LSU with senior marcus randall and redshirt frosh jamarcus russell, but it was a complete clusterfrick of a QB juggling situation.

Mettenberger was going to be the savior for LSU in 2011 after the starting QB in 2010 threw 4 TD's in the regular season.

Then 2011 came and Mett couldn't beat out Jefferson or Lee.

A lot of LSU fans were disappointed because we knew the better QB was sitting on the bench but the senior QB's were the leaders.

We won't juggle anything past the Southern Miss game, IF it lasts that long. It could be over after the WVU game. If not, it will go through FAU. It could be over then. If not, it'll go through Southern Miss. At that point a decision will be made because we have Florida the next week.

Mett couldn't beat out Jefferson or Lee because Miles was being an idiot. Same with not taking Jefferson out for Lee in NOLA.

Saban didn't go get Coker to ultimately decide even if he's better that he'll sit because Blake has seniority. IF Coker gives Bama the best chance to succeed based off of what Coach Saban and Coach Kiffin can assess after a certain point which will definitely come sometime after the West Virginia game and before the Florida game, he'll start. Same goes for Blake Sims.

What hurts Sims is the style of offense. Saban and Kiffin are not going to change the offense they have been running for over a decade to fit the style of one player unless there is no other viable option. That doesn't mean Sims is automatically out, but it does mean he will be asked to play in a way his skill set probably does not fit. Sims could be very dangerous in an offense like AU's. He was highly recruited as an athlete and is blazing fast. I don't think Saban, Kiffin, or Cristobal really know what to do with him. Otherwise he would already be named the starter.

I think he'll get some Wildcat snaps even if he loses the job. Not a lot, but a few a game. Run a couple of times, maybe get a throw or two. Though if they do that and he isn't producing after a couple of games, they'll probably stop.

Ultimately Sims has shown improvement, and we all love him, but he doesn't have the arm to make the most out of all the talent we have, and I think most of the skill position players probably realize that. But if we somehow make the playoffs, we're not gonna win against a team like FSU with our run game and a dink and dunk passing game. Someone has to make a few plays down the field.

As usual barnies more concerned with Bama than their own team. Because we could care less about their team. Little bro as usual.

just some posts I found from this board in the last few months:

quote:

Coker won't be there until the summer. I still expect he'll eventually win the job. I think the first couple of games you'll see him and either Morris or Sims split time, not unlike McCarron and Phillip Sims a couple years back, before Coker is eventually declared the guy....

I think Blake Sims wins the QB job out of spring and maybe even keeps it through the opener. But once Coker has the playbook down, I don't think Sims has the physical tools to keep Coker off the field. ...

From BOL: Got some insight this weekend on Coker. I'm glad Blake Sims is working hard and giving the effort, But this will be Jacob Cokers team this season. He will live up to the offseason hype. " He is an Nfl caliber QB who will end up being a 1st round draft pick. "
