Perhaps this is the case.
But Auburn nearly loses to Utah St and Miss St but then beats USC. Then Auburn gets beat pretty bad by Arky, who got destroyed by Bama. How can I think USC is any good?

The SEC is still the SEC.

Arky ranked #10 and SC ranked #15. Come on chief.

You really think they've looked like #10 and #15 respectively? Perhaps all of college football just looks bad compared to the top 5. Drop off from #3 to #10 seems bigger than I ever recall.

I don't want to go out too far on a limb... but I suspect the SEC Ranters are finding LSU posters a tad on the obnoxious side lately... even more than usual!

but I don't think Florida can

They most certainly could if they hadn't lost their first 2'qb's and their #1 RB.

Florida, with those 3 players back, would make south Carolina look as bad as we made Florida look.

Fact.

it's not like we're losing to OOC teams (minus Ole Miss and KY). compared to other conferences, we're still elite

Georgia losing to Boise is irritating... that's why I have to pull against them. Can't have Boise with a win over an SEC division champ.

missed BSU. Yeah, that one hurt but not so much if BSU keeps winning. I'd still take an unranked UGA over a ranked Houston

i think the bottom is not as good as past years but the top is...Most teams would not want to play bama/ LSU/ and arky in the same year and all teams in the west do...Truly ole miss and UK are down, but at least 2 teams in the sec suck...

minus ole miss, ky, auburn, uga apparently

and maybe florida, usc, and uga again later this year

quality (in terms of depth at least) of the SEC has yet to be determined - could be similar to a couple years ago when the SEC had the #1 and #2 in the country but there was a big drop-off after that

Who knows tho - more than half of the games are yet to be played

the top half of our league is right where it's always been. Different names (Ark, USCe in, utenn, FU out) but still as strong as it's always been. Where the argument can be made about a weaker SEC is in the middle and bottom. Top tier is LSU, Alab, and then the next tier is, in order Ark, UGA, SC (yes, SC won the head to head, but I like the way UGA is playing right now more), and then there is a pretty decent drop to FU and Aub, and then there's a fairly significant drop off to tenn, and maybe Mississippi state, then the thing falls off the earth to (in order) Vandy, OM, Kentucky.

So...I still think that the teams we have in the top ten right now belong there. Our other ranked teams stack up well with the top tier of any other conference in the nation. But unlike previous years, when we were pretty competitive through about our 10th team, this year we are only competitive through about 8 teams.

It does look like a down year to me. LSU/Bama are the elite.

Edit: Down year for college football overall.
