Until someone proves otherwise, this has to be the general assumption. The funny part is that Alabama will be the consensus pick to win the West, with LSU and Ole Miss being picked next in either order by most people, but somehow LSU will be retroactively the preseason favorite when the season plays out.

This is always a fun contradiction on the Tiger Rant. Pumpers pick 12-0 and Haters pick 8-4. When we go 10-2, somehow the Pumpers claim we overachieved and the Haters claim we underachieved. Revisionist history is alive and well, both there and here.

No it doesn't. You play LSU, UT, and Ole Miss at their stadiums. More than likely those match ups could decide the West. I'm not really including UT as they've continually proved they're all hype for almost 10 yrs now.

Oh, man, I guess that would have been around 2001 or so.

Agree. If Tennessee doesn't get there this year with all the talent + experience they return in a weak (even by recent standards) SEC-E, Butch just needs to step gracefully aside and let a real coach come in.

I agree with the sentiment that we should get there but simply too much can happen for me to agree to the rest - injuries, luck, a surprise team being really good, etc. all factor into whether or not a team makes an appearance. If blame ends up being doled out it should always be more along the lines of blame the coach for what's in his control rather than what's not and without having played the season it's hard to make a blanket assessment like that.

When have VOLS been hyped as a National Championship contender before this year? 2008 was the last time the national media really thought Tennessee would make some noise. Some people otb are so dumb lol

It feels very awkward being reasonable on the SEC-R -- like a crabwalk at a cotillion -- but I will concede that point. If Tennessee suffers a major loss, like UF and UGA have done in recent years, it's hard to hold the coach accountable. Barring significant injuries or one of the new QBs for UGA or UF being the greatest thing since sliced Newton, though, I can't think of a clearer-cut favorite for a division title since...Urban's Florida, really.

Last offseason. I'm sure I have a few posts on here about it. I pretty much look at the natural progression of a team with talent. I also used LSU's schedule of getting Ole Miss and Bama at home (which is a lot easier than on the road). Tennessee needed to build depth and experience, their schedule also puts them at home vs Bama and UF.

I believe it's time for a changing of the guard.

Sorry I'm an LSU fan and I open LSU threads and you're in every single one of them getting your flame on. If that's considered stalking then so be it.

For LSU, when I realized they'll probably win every other SEC game, so their loss in Fayetteville won't matter.

For Tennessee, when I realized they're in the east and don't play Arkansas.

I'm going to have to steal that.

And yeah, I do think that we're seeing a clearer cut favorite than is normal and it probably is comparable to Urban's Florida as weird as that sounds to me since we've been down for what seems like eternity. The vestiges of Battered Fan Syndrome that Dooley left us with are real.

I do think that UGA is probably being a bit underrated by everyone -- they finished with a good season and return a talented to roster. Yes, they have a new coach and maybe a new QB but they managed to win games last year with a very meh QB.

UF is such a wild card with how they played last year that it's hard to really pinpoint where they're at. Are they the team of the first half of last season or the very bad one of the latter half or something in between? While I expect their secondary to still be strong losing VH3 will effect Tabor's production. But it would be a mistake not to think their defense will still be stout.

This is a thread about LSU and ut. I gave my opinion on the matter and then severe butthurt ensued

Which Peachtree and what's the name. I likes me some scones and the wife and I are going to Atlanta Thursday for 3 days.
