I think Miss State has done far more to earn the Moo State moniker and it's not just the cowbells.

In all seriousness, though, when I was a kid (back in the 80s!) my old man would get a gift pack every December sent to him by some salesman that called on him from Mississippi I presume. It was Miss State's version of the Hickory Farms gift box. Damn that was some good cheese. My old man is retired now and I live far from home so it's been a long time since I've had cheese from StarkVegas.

Sadly, we are much better at cheese than sports.

I remember the Edam being pretty good.
Maybe I'll surprise my old man and send him some for Christmas this year.

Mizzou was the superior team. Shitty coaching led to a 4th and 15 td.

They're just not very talented, never really have been.
Spurrier's moxy has allowed them to play above their heads, but I fear he may be suffering from early onset dementia. They're losing a little bit of the OBC every week. Even as a VOL fan, it's sad to see.

As far as the close games with lesser opponents, there have been several times where we would score a bunch of points
UNC: 17-0 run
Vanderbilt: 28-0 run
UCF: 28-0 run to go up 28-10
Kentucky: 21-0 run
Only to have them come back, largely due to a young and inexperienced linebacker and secondary core along with some untimely turnovers.

USC is never as good or as bad as they look. Take last year, for example. Beat the t-tone shite outta UGA. Looked like they could seriously contend for the Natty. Two weeks later, get destroyed by UF. Look like they may lose out. It's just how this team has been for the last several seasons.
Look at this season: destroy Arky at Arky, a place USC hasn't won since 2005. Then, follow that up with an abysmal showing in Knoxville to become one of maybe two conference victories for the Vols.
I'm not really sure why it's a program or systemic issue, because every season there are different reasons why they play super close games. This year, it's largely been because the defense is ridiculously young, and we have the youngest roster in the country. But last year, USC had a talent/senior-laden defense, and the EXACT same skill position players on offense, but the O wasn't nearly as good. In fact, this year's team is missing Ace Sanders, one of the better SEC receivers last season, and one of the best return men in the game.
Plus, USC as a team *hates* being the favored opponent. They've covered the spread once this season. This is just how we are. Carolina will look ugly as hell in beating MSU, but they'll still inch closer to a possible showdown in ATL. And if they make it, they'll hang tough with Bama longer than anyone else expects.

That's patently retarded. USC has put 6-8 guys in the league every season for the past four or five years. If you go back and watch the 2010 USC/Bama game, every player of note for both teams except Garcia is in the NFL.
Spurrier doesn't get gaga over star ratings, sure. He takes talented players that fit his teams' needs. But there's plenty of talent in Columbia.

USC is young. Think they have about 4 seniors. It matters.

There's talent in Mizzou, too.
I'm not a part of this stupid USC/Mizzou flamefest that has consumed the rant for the past week.
