You have to have been a premier program so that rules Scar out

Tennessee is up for consideration. They have the resources to get out of it though

Now, that I think about it, I'm not sure what I'm more surprised by: 15 years since a Tennessee conference championship or 14 years since a Nebraska conference championship?

Tennessee has it lower lows, but Nebraska fell off the face of the Earth after 1999 compared to where they were.

And BTW the correct response is rules out Mizzou too.

(Did I use the correct too CNB?)

If Tennessee can't do better than 6-6 this year I think they will be on their way.

Nebraska is interesting. They're still winning games, just not important ones.

Win %, 1999 and after: 68%
Win %, 1998 and before: 71%

Claimed National Championships before 1999: 5
Claimed National Championships after 1999: 0

Conference Championships before 1999: 45
Conference Championships after 1999: 1

Heisman Winners before 1999: 2
Heisman Winners after 1999: 1

Slip began in about 2006, 2007

I would say it began in Atlanta, back in 2001. Caught a flat on the way to Pasadena.

Also we joke about Bama's bogus titles, but I bet they bring new meaning to bogus titles.

Tennessee is kind of a sad case. Those 90s squads were legendary.

They're the Nebraska of the SEC.

Yea, how is Ole Miss not listed? The slip began with integration. I think they had the 6th most SEC titles still until Auburn passed them in the 2000's. 5th most pre-Spurrier.

Nebraska is a clear number 1. Nowhere near talent in a division no one gives a shite about nationally. Oh well they will get paid when tOSU and PSU plunder NYC and DC.

Miami lacks the support needed to compete in modern football.

OU if the Big 12 becomes stable but nationally marginized.

Michigan could get there with one more bad hire.

Awesome thread and OP.

The difference is Tennessee is in the SEC. The SEC is the tide that can lift any boat.

The odds of Nebraska achieving their former glory are much steeper recruiting northern states instead of southern.
