If you hear mett tell it, he scored on that play and les told the refs to place it on the 1 so lsu didn't score again

I was thinking the same thing, is there a backstory to why he did it?

So its classy to win 52-3 instead of 59-3? That's ridiculous.

LSU fans are so dumb with this shite. Houston Nutt took a knee on the goal line in Tiger Stadium with a bunch of time on the clock in 2008

To answer the op...the baseball version of the mercy knee would be to have every lsu batter bunt the ball while stepping on home plate as they make contact. Automatic out.

Houston nutt took a knee on the last couple of plays to run the clock out and end the game, teams do that shite all the time. What teams don't do is kneel the ball out of pity with 5 mins left in the game when it's 52-3. It is a bit different.

We knelt the ball 4 straight times with over 5 minutes left and turned the ball over on downs.

I'd never seen that done before.

Don't ask UNC; evidently they don't believe in that.

Les legit thought it was the sportsmanlike thing to do.

Yeah, I don't think he realized kneeling there was in a way worse than scoring.

Reminds me of a Tennessee - Auburn game back in the day. UT was dominating, and actually punted on first down a few times. This made Shug Jordan so made, he punted on first down right back to them.

Would love to have been a proverbial "fly on the wall" for both sideline conversations on that one...

True...against a team as bad as Bama would just be rubbing dirt in a large wound

Letting position players pitch. Teams will also do this when they're the ones taking a beating and they don't want to waste the bullpen for meaningless outs.

Lol the main reason we bag on y'all concerning this game is because of the mercy knee.

If the game would have been 59-3 it would just be your standard arse kicking.

But classy Les Miles gave us gold shittalking material that we will pass down for generations.
