Since 16 team conferences look like the future . Have 8, 16 team conferences 128 teams ( currently 124 ) so 4 teams can still jump to D1 ( No Independents) have 8 automatic bids and 8 at large births. 16 team playoff and college football owns the month of December. Still have bowl game for non playoff teams, and then promote the 16 team tournament " Made for Champions".

i'm thinking the whole point of the selection committee is to see that this scenario never happens.

True College Football fans should want the best teams no matter what league they are from. If three out of 4 are from the SEC than so be it.

I thought the idea of a playoff was to get rid of the polls.

Why have BOTH?

The polls will always be around. Forever.

Maybe so, but it'll end up looking like basketball where polls are used throughout the regular season, but have no bearing on playoff selection.

It should go like this:

Win your division, play in your conference championship, win the championship, advance in the playoffs.

The conference championship should be like the first round of the playoffs.

Seed 8 teams, 5 BCS conference champions, three highest seeded non-BCS conference champions.

NO "wld-cards" no byes.

That's the fairest system of all and maintains the value of the regular season and conference championships.

Don't win your conference? Don't make the playoffs.

Can't just be based on conference champions. The Big East,Conference USA and Mountain West are awful. They can't just be automatic qualifiers.

I bet we wouldn't get 3 of the 4 in because didn't they make it where a committee selects the teams? its stupid if you have a committee selecting teams when you should just use the bcs standings. If they used bcs standings with the only rule being its 1-4 no matter what then the sec would get 3 teams in and the country would cry

Be awful difficult to get university presidents to accept that during the finals period for many of these universities.

8 team playoff with conference champs in the Big 5, 1 autobid for highest ranked conference champ of the little 5, and 2 at large bids.

And ND gets an at large bid if it is ranked in the top 10. So it will limit the SEC to 2 at most out of 8 in those years. Which sucks but this system is heading to this.

Should have 4, 16 team conferences, giving a total of 64. The other 64 should form their own division.

Each conference should 4, 4 team divisions. Then the division winners of each of conference would form a 4-team playoff. The champions of each conference would form a final four. Bowls for non-division winners.
