Still, the end problem is the elite bball talent isn't located in the South for the most part and kids don't grow up playing basketball nearly as much as other parts of the country. Obviously there are exceptions to that rule though.

You would have to show me some stats that support this. GA/FLA are both loaded with bball talent and have been so for the last 10+ years. In GA alone, Wheeler/Norcross/Milton literally spit out top 100 recruits.

NC,GA,VA,FLA,TEX are all loaded with players

Time. Most will be better later in the season. Ky has lots of new players every year. TN will get Maymon back.

Yankee basketball players. More big cities in the South with hoops-crazed urban areas.

Only two of which are traditionally SEC recruiting grounds and players from FL go everywhere.

MIZZOU supports BB, and i think if more of the SEC schools have success the fan support would follow, and I know the SEC is the power in football, but people tend not to care about sports that there teams are not good at.

Players from New York go everywhere, players from cali go everywhere. That argument doesn't work. The south has just as many top recruits as the north, well not just as many but enough that the argument that "there are no recruits in the south" doesn't hold.

ETA it has more to do with players wanting to go to schools that are notorious for bball/put an emphasis on it.

North Carolina and Virginia are ACC. Texas is far more Big 12 than SEC in terms of basketball. Florida won 2 NC's so that kind of proves the point, though a lot of Florida kids leave. Georgia I can't explain. I suppose those kids just aren't staying home. UGA seems to barely care at all about basketball though Georgia Tech has had some nice teams.

In the end though, a kid can go to a lot of Non SEC schools and basketball is all anyone cares about. They go to an SEC school not named UK and maybe Mizzou and if the football team is winning people barely remember they have a basketball team until January.

Of course they do. WE have way too many athletes for one big time program in the state.

While this season has been a little rough I actually think the conference is heading in the right direction.

The conference is recruiting well. If you look at the rivals top 150 there are a lot of players heading to SEC schools.

4. Aaron Harrison - Kentucky
5. Andrew Harrison - Kentucky
8. Chris Walker - Florida
9. Kasey Hill - Florida
10. James Young - Kentucky
12. Jarell Martin - LSU
15. Robert Hubbs - Tennessee
17. Bobby Portis - Arkansas
18. Marcus Lee - Kentucky
41. Jordan Mickey - LSU
43. Sindarius Thornwell - South Carolina
50. Johnathan Williams III - Missouri
60. Jimmie Taylor - Alabama
62. Moses Kingsley - Arkansas
66. Tim Quarterman - LSU
71. Wesley Clark - Missouri
81. Derrick Griffin - Texas A&M
82. Damian Jones - Vanderbilt
93. Shannon Hale - Alabama
117. Torren Jones - Missouri
129. Derek Willis - Kentucky
139. Juwan Parker - Georgia
149. Dwight Coleby - Ole Miss

I believe we have a good group of coaches. Anthony Grant is getting Alabama rolling, Mike Anderson will get Arkansas to be a consistent tournament team, Billy Donovan of course is great at Florida, Calipari is having a down year but that won't last, Johnny Jones at LSU has been a pleasant surprise both with coaching and recruiting, I think Andy Kennedy is starting to make progresses at Ole Miss, Haith has been doing an excellent job with Missouri, Frank Martin will win at SC just give him time, Cuonzo Martin can coach and will get Tenn going, Kennedy built Murray state and is starting to get things at A&M moving in the right direction, and Stallings at Vandy is obviously a good coach. I'm not sold yet on Barbee, Fox, or Ray but other than them we have some good coaches.

On facilities I will have to defer to others until I learn a little more about what each school has. I know Auburn built a new arena relatively recently, Arky built or is building a practice facility, and I believe Ole Miss is planning a much needed new arena.

In a year or two I think we could have a good to very good hoops league.

It does because most of those kids from NY and Cali aren't heading to the southeast to play basketball, not enough SEC programs put basketball on enough of a pedestal to have that pull (Kentucky and select others excluded).
