Interesting read.

quote:

"At some point, facilities and salaries can make a huge difference," Blackburn noted. "We all shop with our eyes, and when a high school kid sees some of the facilities the SEC can offer, it's pretty tough to recruit against that. When you look at some of the SEC campuses, it's like the Magic Kingdom at Disney World. It's not the real world."

How long the rest of college athletics outside the SEC will tolerate such an un-level playing field remains to be seen.

I went to UNO on a full academic ride before TOPS to stay closer to home although I considered LSU and A&M. I probably made a poor decision I'm an LSU fan and did get a professional cert through them.

ETA: UNO was decent in Baseball and Basketball back then and if the administration had any vision they could have easily replicated say Cincinnati or even Louisville success in all sports including football as the talent in this area is at least equal to or better than those and Louisiana still doesn't have a true number 2 in state.

Shite, it's tough for the bottom SEC schools to compete with the big SEC schools in regards to facilities. It's only going to get worse. Hell, LSU has nice facilities, but it's outdated compared to a&m and bama. LSU is about to renovate its facilities thou.

Absolutely. If you don't have what others have...take it away from them and give it to those who don't work for it...or don't know how to get it.

Other conferences put their money in other areas. If they are better at swimming than the SEC, how are they going to level the playing field? Problem is the SEC is better at almost every sport we offer. At some point other conferences need to ask themselves, "Why?" and take steps to catch up or watch us win everything every year.

That's what the society has become/is becoming. Obviously this was said in jest, but there is a real segment of the country that feels this way. Its really weird and you have to blame parents that didn't teach their children work ethic and responsibility. Its just like the people that want $15 an hour to work at McDonalds and the entitled people that think they should graduate high school and walk right into a 40-50k a year job and don't understand why they cant.

It's pretty amazing. For instance, OU, a powerhouse in softball, came to Baton Rouge for the softball series earlier this year. There was an article on how their coaches, players, etc were in awe of our softball stadium and practice facilities. If I remember correctly, their coach is coming back down this offseason with their AD.

SEC universities have really made a commitment to the non revenue generating sports. All this extra cash is being used to improve our facilities, hirer quality assistants, etc.

Manny Diaz was speaking to a group and began talking about the amazing strides State had made in facilities. Said State basically had as nice of facilities as Texas in football.

The commitment by the SEC to reinvest money made into facilities is 2nd to none

Congress has adjourned, leaving funding levels for higher education essentially preserved. Continue on though with your idiotic statements

what are you talking about? LSU has great facilities. what's wrong with our football, basketball, baseball and softball facilities? maybe our swimming facility doesn't measure up but I know of no sport that we don't offer facilities as good as what's out there.

and before you say basketball, the PMAC is a great arena and sized to fit our fan base (as opposed to Kentucky's). and it's as good as bama and aggie.

Our football operations building was built in 2006 and is definitely out of date in comparison to Alabama and A&M. Players Lounges, Technology, etc need updating. According to Alleva, it's in the works

However, our basketball practice facility was just built and is a top facility in the country
