This seems to be a common opinion about Etling, but I'm not sure how accurate it is. He's no stud QB, but can be a very serviceable QB and a game manager under Canada.
Went 7-3 as a starter last year, 7-2 under Orgeron. 60%, 2123 yds, 11 tds and 5 ints. Not exactly horrible numbers. Though he didn't play well, we were in position to win against AU and UF.
If Canada is half the coach people claim, he might be able to mold this guy into a competent QB.

Against Auburn we lost a game in which our opponent did not score a touchdown. I've said this repeatedly about the Auburn game - towards the end of the third quarter, Etling had 31 passing yards. He had 118 for the game and 41 of those yards were on the last drive. So if Auburn runs the clock out he has 77 total yards passing for the game, instead of the still terrible 118 yards.
We scored 10 points vs Florida. But but but we fumbled! What about all of the drives that we didn't fumble. We didn't have a receiver catch more than 2 passes. LSU was in position to win vs. AU and UF solely because of the defense and DESPITE the qb play. How can you not see this?

2.5/1 vs 2.2/1
Not that different.
Not that different.

Nathan Peterman wasn't really any better his junior year than Etling, go look at the stats. Both had a passer rating between 135 and 139.
Are you expecting Etling to put up 2800 yards and 27 TDs this year?

If you're going to quote me, at least use the full sentence. You know, context and all.

Clearly I did see it, as stated.

You quoted this post
And said this
A post says he's limited. You say "I'm not sure that's accurate." Then you speculate how good he can be under a coach you've never seen him play for. What other context can there possibly be? Then you say
Guess what, the numbers you listed and said weren't exactly horrible numbers" are actually horrible numbers. That's my point. He averaged one touchdown per game. He's never completed over 60% of his passes in any season in his career. He was ranked 7th in QB rating in the SEC last season. He ranked 10th in passing yards. 10th in touchdowns. 8th in completion %. These are facts I'm not making these statistics up.
