You could bitch about the slim chance of that happening, or, about the fact that if it were a 4-team playoff, Alabama would be sitting at home right now virtually assured of a spot, and a week of rest. Deal with it.

Exactly.

And this is why the 4-team playoff system is going to be a bigger clusterfrick than the BCS ever dreamed of.

I'm one of the few people who actually likes the system as it is, and don't think a playoff is entirely necessary -- but certainly more fun.

What we have here is akin to a playoff.

OSU needs to beat MSU.
FSU needs to beat Duke.
Missouri or Auburn has to win, with one or two of the others losing. Seems fair to me.

The shame is that Alabama, Auburn or Missouri could all beat FSU and OSU.
