Yeah OCs have no relationship with their QBs and spend no time coaching them up. In some conferences OCs aren't even allowed to know who their QB is before the first week of the season...

Didn't say that. Simply said he's never been a QB's coach which is fact. Kiffin has much more experience with the WR's. It's much more logical he was spending time with them.

So he helps QB's mentally and with the play calling? Doesn't mean he develops them or coaches them in terms of actual teaching.

FWIW, I see a similar situation with our OC/QB coach. Everybody says he's "really good" or "he has a great offensive mind". But at what point has he ever really excelled? People will give you some kind of answer like "...but he coached _______".

You keep searching for whatever "it" is that's supposed to be there and it's just not there. And it probably never was....or either I'm blind.

Kiffin is not there to be the QB coach. Billy Napier will handle the QB's. Kiffin is there to run the offense, game plan the offense, call the games and will likely manage the passing game from the WR coach slot.

Also helps that he is may be the fix for Saban's blind spot...QB eval from a recruiting standpoint.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out. I've always trusted Nick Saban's judgement. But this one goes way over my head. I'm guessing he knows what he's doing.

Although Kiffin was not the QB coach at SC this past season, his (in)decision to not name a starting QB for the first few games was labeled a complete disaster. Both Kessler and Wittek looked completely lost and diffident. I know the dual QB thing has worked for some schools, but however Kiffin handled it behind the scenes didn't work. At friggin all.

Along the same lines, in Kiffin's 3+ years as our head coach (he was also the play caller, Helton was never allowed to call plays in games), when USC was losing at half time, we came back to win a total of ZERO times. Zero.

Just in case you were wondering.

Everyone is saying Kiffin will be QB's coach. Are you saying they are wrong?

has he not done a pretty good job of that? McElroy? McCarron?

Same. Either that of Gus has messed up his psyche badly...

No question.

It has? I can't remember it working very well except maybe at Florida. Even then it wasn't ideal and Meyer had to work at it big time.

Unbelievable. That is just baffling.
