What if UGA\AU and AL\TN were made to end their permanent rivalries each year?

Everyone screams about it not being fair in the SEC, but you can't really do what the Big 10 did either. In order to keep rivalries intact, they put Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State all in the same division. Then take a look at the other division: Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana. One of those divisions is not like the other. I definitely want to keep our traditional rivalries, but we could think of a better way.

Then there would be one less excuse for LSU fans to use after getting their arse handed to them by Alabama.

Isn't that the case in the SEC right now?

I'd hate to see those two rivalries end. They are two that took a large role in making Southern football the wondrous spectacle that it is today.

How about we go to a nine-game schedule and everybody is happy?

It's not like the SEC East is any good

Get rid of divisions and let each team pick 2 opponents to lock permanent every year and rotate all the rest. 2 best records at end of year go to ATL.

Florida and Tennessee can't stay down forever though...and UGA will always be a power on that side.

Who do you think you are? Nick Saban?

The answer is nine games, but the SEC isn't going there just because it makes scheduling sense. It will go there as a compromise to the B1G, PAC and Big 12 in return for something else the SEC wanted. It is moves like that which keeps the SEC playing chess while the rest of the country plays checkers.

Because that fricks over teams such as UF/USC/UK/UGA, who have strong OOC opponents every year. A nine-game schedule plus Florida State/Clemson is murder.

Maybe, once the rest of the conference adopts more stringent scheduling rules, we can do this.

I don't think UGA fans would lose any sleep. We spanked y'all 34-7 last year, and y'all haven't beaten us in Athens in 10 years.

Aside from the Mississippi schools we all usually play 9 P5 games in the regular season. UGA is the only program that routinely does 10.

Funny how important tradition is until money gets involved. tamu left their big rivalry with Texas for more money in the SEC, and Mizzou did the same with their rivalry against KU.

If the SEC offices in Birmingham had the slightest indication that it would make the conference more money, they'd go to a 9 game, 6-3 schedule and do away with the permanent cross-division rivals in a heart beat.

No one in the East can complain about tough scheduling. You get Kentucky, Vandy, and Tennessee every year.

Keep telling yourselves that dawg fans. Believe me, you've lost plenty of sleep after some of the games against us in that time period. Since 1892 in fact. Do you need any reminders?

No, they aren't. USC schedules 10 on the reg. Even when they're not P5 schools, it's the likes of ECU and UCF, who have wrecked some P5 schools and won BCS bowls in the same seasons.

AU/UG is overrated anyhow.
As for the latter...well, sucks for UT.

So what if UGA and Florida were made to end? Some people think that is overrated. Would you be on board?

I guess we have different interpretations of the phrase "on the reg." And that's even if you stretched the meaning of P5 to include lower level teams like ECU.
