Vandy fans: A couple of us were talking about this last night...where was Caleb Azubike for Vanderbilt? He was a great, athletic outside linebacker last season. I didn't even notice him playing last night.

I'm sure the Vandy fan is not gonna show up in this thread.

Pretty accurate. Patton didn't start great, but Mason WAY jumped the gun on benching him. Rivers didn't play too bad, but then suddenly a RS FR takes over and tries to do too much which results in two INTs

We tried Kimbrow once, and he fumbled. Webb is a decent back, but we need Seymour's inside presence. Although with how unprepared the line looked, doing anything on offense looked difficult.

Here's my overreaction: don't let Sims field another punt or KO all season. He fumbled on a KO return and muffed a KO and punt.

All in all, it looked like a team that had just rolled out of bed. Everything looked slow. Mason needs to step back on offense and let Patton play. He proved last year that he's a pretty decent QB.

He needs to forget that "power run" crap and quit it fast.

Stanford made it work. He just needs time to recruit those type of players. I would go to more of an option based attack from under center if I were Mason.

Stanford wasn't lining up against Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida, South Carolina, week in and week out either.

Given time, I think Mason can have Vanderbilt fielding a stiff defense. They've got to get some points out there.

Maybe it was just me, but watching Mason on the sideline, it was almost like he panicked when things didn't start out particularly well.

Vandy booted the ball around, and did not have the security blanket of Matthews in the passing game to look to, particularly on 3rd downs. The defense was passable, but was given a bunch of garbage situations due to turnovers. Eventually, they were gassed.

It resembled nothing, so much as a game between two bad HS teams, where one team makes all the mistakes, and the other bad team wins by simply not screwing it up as much as the other-- an experience in football most of us can relate to having seen at some point.

I think what stood out the most besides the panicking coaching calls and switching QBs is how weak the Offensive line looked.

They couldn't protect worth a flip (against Temple!) and that was supposed to be one of Vandy's strengths this year.
