What exactly holds Texas A&M back?

They have an undisputed commitment to being great. Can’t fault them for the commitment.
They updated all facilities, the stadium itself, bought a great recruiting class in the NIL era, and snagged the top coach at the time and there is still nothing there to hang your hat on.
I don’t fault A&M at all for trying, they have a shite load of money and were absolutely committed to winning.
My question is why/how did it not work?
They did almost everything you could do to win and there is nothing here currently……
It’s kind of fascinating.
Gotta be something internal.

Poor coaching hires and a loser culture.

All male cheerleaders and all the other homo-erotic weird shite they do sure doesn’t help

I mean they went ALL in.
They did everything you could possibly do.
They were 100% all in and had the advantage of an unlimited war chest.
Pretty wild.

This could be a dissertation, but a few things:
1. They don't understand that you cannot buy success even with NIL. This has been an issue with them prior to NIL. See Franchoine.
2. A little brother mentality that is leaps and bounds worse than any other school to include Auburn.
Edit- More coming...

At this point, Jimbo. If you plop Kirby into Jimbos seat next season, all other things the same, how long till he wins a title?

I get that it takes some luck to win a title but there's literally no reason why you can't win 10 games more than once since 1998 with those kinds of resources.
It's baffling.
They must be cursed.

You can have all the money in the world but if you believe deep down that you can't win then that money might as well be thrown in a fire.

It’s Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve

If you just look at it logically it’s fascinating.
I don’t know if it proves that some programs just can never get to elite status, no matter what you do or not.
But they did everything you could possibly do and there is just nothing here.

1. They joined when Bama had a stronghold on recruiting of everyone else.
2. It’s because Georgia hasn’t come to Kyle Field
Yet.
3. They hired Jimbo Fisher, who pretty much tanked FSU, before he bolted. This would be a fun bowl matchup, btw

It’s gotta be something internal.
Not sure if it’s belief or what, but something is missing.
It’s a great topic to discuss in the NIL era where a program did it all and nothing happened.

3. Their weird traditions they are remnants of the reasons they state why they weren't successful (Yell Leaders because no cheerleaders because All Male "Military" school and Corps of Cadets).

My opinion is that it is two things: Exaggerated optimism and feigned (or real) arrogance.
The exaggerated optimism comes in not accepting failure for what it is. To the aggies, it is just a misinterpretation of results. For instance, they say that “The Aggies have never lost a game, they have only been trailing when time ran out.” Somehow putting a positive spin on losing. Moreover their optimism for the future knows no bounds - see the 20– NCAA Football Championship Trophy they gave Jimbo upon his hire. Their culture simply isn’t wired to accept failure as an option or as an occurrence. But instead of working to avoid the failure, they work through the failure and just call it success.
The arrogance comes when people question such an approach and they say you just don’t understand. The Aggies pride themselves so dang much on tradition, that they hold the traditions above everything and it is what makes them special. So the Aggie Way of doing things is the right way, despite all evidence to the contrary and if you question it, then you’re incapable of understanding.

Hiring Jimbo Fisher did it to Texas A&M. Right there!

I mean hell if something is missing he could ask for it and it’s probably delivered the next day.

They don't hire good head coaches

Even some of the things they say like "we ran out of time" is like Ole Miss and their "may not win every game, but never lost a party".
That's not a winner's mentality.
