Nah, the Charlotte game was Shaw's first career start in 2011. he did struggle in that one, though
and welcome back

You are correct sir. I was mistaken.

also, just realized DT played the majority of the UCF game on the road and threw for 261 yards with a rushing TD and INT.
only QB to beat them last year

He's pretty good, defintely a solid option. But Shaw had all the intangibles you want in a QB, and it'll be difficult for Thompson to fill his shoes IMO. Mike Davis in the backfield helps though

I think he's an upgrade talent wise over Shaw

His decision making has to get better. If he can limit the turnovers and sling it like he has shown, we will be very good this season.

Funny. I thought he had "bottom" written all over him.

My impression is he has a good arm, good accuracy, good field presence, he sees the field well and he has some quality experience. He should do well next year.
He falls short of Shaw in running out of trouble (or just running period), toughness, and that intangible quality that Shaw had (toughness, leadership?). But he will only improve. If he doesn't get hurt, SC is fine at QB, imvho.

Thompson gets the ball out very quick, and usually he knows where its supposed to go .
Has shown a tendency to leave too much air under his deep balls and that lets safeties adjust to them.
Can gain yards if the defense sells out for the RB on the zone read.

Thompson will be a Top 3 QB in the SEC when it's all said and done this season.
He's had 5 years in the program
Started and won multiple games,
Has beaten ranked teams on the road,
Has a above avg arm for an SEC QB,
Has 8 of the top 9 receivers returning from last year's team,
Has 4 of 5 returning OL and 9 of 10 from the OL 2 Deep.
His "tougher" games are for the most part at home, w/ the exception of Aub and clem5on on the road...but he lit up the taters last time he played in the other death valley.
Thompson will be successful b/c he knows the playbook and has a ton of experience around him.

I'm still not sold on him being the answer next year, but everything coming out this Spring has him being head and shoulders above the guys behind him. I think he needs to make better decisions on his passes as he forces too many throws into double coverage. If he does make the strides needed to be our full time guy then watch out. He definitely has a stronger arm than Shaw, and has some sneaky mobility. Only time will tell, honestly.
And welcome back, good sir.

He looked like Joe Montana in the 2012 Clemson game but has looked lost every other game I've seen him in, normally Spurrier keeps pretty good qb's on his roster but I wonder if DT can be consistent. Hell, it took Murray 3 years to get it together, DT doesn't have 3 years.

Welcome back CNB. Been way too long.
I suspect Thompson will do just fine. Spurrier wouldn't be playing him if he couldn't. Shaw just had Mizzou's number, plain and simple, so I'm just glad it's anyone but Shaw.
