Didn't LSU hire Curley Hallman over Spurrier?

Possibly Bobby Bowden in '87(?)...although I would've hated having to shove his old age-spotted arse out the door after he had outlived his usefulness around 2003.

Calipari was also interested in Mizzou at same time that Bill Self and Quin Snyder were being considered, as I recall it was due to Calipari's wife having some family connections to Missouri. I consider that a much bigger whiff than Bill Self. Reason being, I think it's better to look at what both those coaches did before they got to UK and ku as a barometer. What Bill Self did at Illinois was nice and all, but he never went to a Final Four and honestly didn't do anything that Mizzou hasn't done on its own.

Calipari at Memphis on the other hand started getting NBA lottery pick level guys to come there and led the Memphis Tigers to the national championship game. We really should have put the full court press on him to the extent there was any interest. I think the UMass/Camby thing may have emerged right around then which scared us off a bit, but hell Quin Snyder wound up putting our program on probation anyway. With the gift of hindsight, major major whiff.

Now granted, I am sure that if Mizzou had hired Calipari and the UK job came open, we'd have been every bit as in danger of losing him to them as Memphis was. But that doesn't negate it having been the best hire we could have made at the time.

Good god. For Mizzou never doing anything in football or basketball, y'all were sure on the verge of hiring some elite coaches.

Thanks. Auburn's last NCAA tournament was when exactly?

I can't believe they passed up Bobby Bowden for Bill Curry. Screw throwing bricks, they should have thrown Curry through the A.D.'s window.

Never mind I found it, Auburn's last NCAA tournament was more than a decade ago. Rockin'. Ours was year before last, you may recall. Oh and what's that? Mizzou has more than triple the amount of NCAA tournament appearances that Auburn does? Yes, good point, should take that into consideration as well. But hey, Barkley and all, amirite?

Mmmhmmm. Who was your SEC championship game opponent last year? Oh, Mizzou? Interesting. How close was it entering the 4th quarter? That close? Wow. And you say that was the first SEC championship game matchup of top 5 teams in how long? Wow. Oh and Auburn's only got a .500 record against Mizzou all time in football still? You don't say? Really? Huh. That's something.

Y'all are the ones who brag about being some supposed power in basketball though.

No I think its the Rant that says that because most of its basketball teams suck so much in comparison that simply making the Big Dance is awe-inspiring to them. Props to Florida for not being in that boat though.

Yeah, it's Missouri fans on the Rant who say that. Good point.

How many final four appearances? How many football championships?

I'm honestly asking.

No Missouri fan brags about being a basketball power.

Stop being stupid.

The hard on some of y'all have for Mizzou is truly astonishing.
