LSU has two DBs that will be starting in the NFL next year and a few more that will be starting in 3 years. Our DBs are by far the most talented group of our defense.

Missouri wouldn't win 79-0 against a team made up entirely of LSUs freshmen class.

Our defense looked porous against week one against WVU. We have a new DC and DL coach. In previous years the style of our DL was tackle the RB on the way to QB, and they really focused on getting to the QB. The new philosophy is more a read and react, gap responsibility style.
WVU opened holes to run through and we didn't get to the QB. There were rumblings that our defense and DL in particular were not adjusting well to the new scheme. There was also discontent because we had the #6 defense and #5 scoring defense in the country last season, so fans didn't feel like we needed to change much.
The defense has played well since then against two bad/mediocre opponents and Georgia. The DL has played a lot better and Charles Harris has gotten more pressure on the QB. Terry Beckner Jr. and Josh Augusta are graded as two of the better run stopping DTs in the SEC so far. Our DBs are also very active, and we lead the nation in passes defensed and passes broken up.
Due to the nature of fast tempo offense, opposing offenses get a lot of plays against our defense. Right now, our defense is on average on the field for 81 plays a game. LSU's offense is only averaging 59 plays a game. Split the difference and LSU will probably run 12 or so more plays than normal on offense.
Statistically, some notable defensive stats so far compared to other SEC teams:
Total defense: #6 (368 YPG)
Yards/play given up: #2 (4.55)
Scoring defense: #6 (18.8 PPG)
Rushing defense: #6 (132 YPG)
Rushing yards per attempt: #5 (3.34 YPA)
Passing defense: #9 (236 YPG)
Passing yards per attempt: #1 (5.7 YPA)
Completion percentage against: #2 (52.7%)
QB rating against: #2 (100.31)
TD:INT ratio against: #1 (4 TD:7 INTs)
3rd down defense: #10 (38%)
Sacks: #9 (8 sacks)
TFL: #7 (23 TFL)

We have 3 secondary players that will be playng in the NFL.
This is why I asked earlier what you liked about your WR against our secondary.
