I guess the first team to defeat another owns that territory no matter how many losses they incur moving forward?

In theory, a team could be 0-11 and upset a team that is 11-0 and end up with a lot of territory at the end of regular season, and then hold it until next season because they will not risk it in a bowl game

So how does this work?

If LSU beats MSU they get all of their land?

How did the map start out?

Closest D1 school to each county.

Yes to your first question.

Well that's kind of lame. I figured that was some better formula behind it other than first loss.

They've got us owning the RTP ... that's true you know. 10-0 vs them this millenium plus the Elite Eight win over Duke plus it always amazes me the ratings draw we are in the RTP and Charlotte. I do believe Boom intends to capitalize there.

I've been putting my Vandy nerd brain to work trying to implement tweaks to make the system more even-handed and reflective of the actual CFB landscape over the season, but all my solutions bring their own new flaws even as they solve the old flaws. Guess, all things considered, this system works as well as any, especially since situations like that 0-11 team beating an 11-0 team to finish the season are going to be very rare.

And most other systems that are more reflective would require a lot more work. I can't be presumptuous enough to nit-pick a free, cool addition to the CFB season.

Well, you know, I didn't say it is likely. I just used the most extreme case I could think of to illustrate my point. Some teams having a bad season can still end up with a lot of land. Nobody is ever really out of it in this game was the point I was trying to make.

Yes but then nothing for beating Syracuse because they've already been beaten.

True, because Syracuse is playing a fcs team this week. So even if they win LSU will not gain any land. Bama is playing Colorado State who has no land. and if Vandy loses to a good K Sate team, then nothing for Bama next week too. However, when Bama meets LSU and if both teams are undefeated, which I think there is a decent chance. A lot of land could be up for grabs in that game.

No worries. Vandy is looking to acquire some land in the MidWest this week...

Yeah, should Utah own BYU's territory at this point?

I understand the "imperalism map" concept, but don't understand this one post bowl games. UGA beat tcu in our bowl game yet we own zero sections of Texas. How is that possible? Wouldn't we at LEAST have fort Worth?

They would have lost their land to Arkansas in the 2nd game and most likely never got it back.

As far as Fort Worth goes

Soak it in. This may very well be the last time you ever see Ball State with a sizable claim in Alabama.
