WDE24's Top 5 SEC Running Backs - Week 2

Back by popular demand. The committee would like to thank everyone who has requested the return of this list.
As always this list chronicles the top SEC running backs by production on the field to date for the current season. Objective statistics are the primary criteria utilized in formulating this list, however, the statistics are set into context based on the quality of opponent upon which the statistics were accumulated. In some instances where the choice is close, a subjective eye test is also taken into account. However, hype, injuries, suspensions, etc. are not. This isn't a list of most talented or a prediction of NFL draft status. It is just an unbiased look at which 5 SEC RB's are getting the job done the best on the field. As such, this list will likely drastically change each week, especially early in the season.
Note: This list only looks at performance at the RB position. Thus, kick and punt return yardage aren't part of the evaluation. However, receiving out of the RB position is accounted for.
1. Nick Chubb - the presumptive favorite heading into the season, Chubb has done nothing to disappoint, but he does have a few rb's, some expected and others not, challenging him this season.
2. Leonardo Fournette- So far LF is living up to the tremendous hype. If he continues the way he started, the battle on this list between he and Chubb could be something you tell your children and grandchildren about.
3. Boom Williams - Given the amount of talent at the RB positron in the SEC, this ranking is a bit of a surprise, but completely earned by Boom (with a name like that he should play for AU).
4. Derrick Henry - Henry just edges out Barber, Hurd and Drake to take the 4 spot despite having slightly fewer total yards from scrimmage. His reliability, efficiency and nose for the end zone made the difference.
5. Peyton Barber - A shining light to an otherwise inauspicious start for the Tigers this year. Like Boom Williams another name on the list that was unexpected in the preseason. Barber barely edged out Drake and Hurd.
Others receiving consideration:
Jalen Hurd, Kenyan Drake, Brandon Wilds

Swap 1 and 2
Swap 3 and 4
then it looks right

229 yards, 4 TD, two 100-yard games, and not even on the list???

Barber, Drake and Hurd we're close. Drake has been much more efficient with his touches, but his production had been less meaningful to his team than either Barber or Hurd. Hurd has played better competition than Barber, but Barber has more production and had been a little more efficient.

I think one and two should really be 1A and 1B
Hurd went bizerk.
Lots of good backs in the conference though, so of course some of us will have different opinions.

Accurate list. Would read again.

1A and 1B

And I think Hurd's done a better job considering the competition. Although he shouldered the load most of the OU game, he split carries with Kamara in the BG game, and if he plays as the primary back in that game we could be talking 200 yards, 4 TD in one game.

Fair enough

Good point. I guess I was assuming this was based on individual weeks. But thinking back on some of your other ones, I know it's more of a running ranking system based on body of work.

or as chubb calls it - an average game

I want to bitch about Carson being left off, but he isn;t deserving (yet).
Still happy with the big man's production. He's projected to be our first 1000 yard back since Gray went back to back in '10 and '11.
155 yards
2 TD
9 rec yards
1 Rec TD
40 touches
