I know tonight's game is in Knoxville, but this was from the Nashville game. Here's "Ernie" #22 and "Bernie" #53 of Tennessee's 'Ernie and Bernie' fame and Butch Feher, one of the members of Vandy's "F-Troop." Vandy would win, 77-66 with King getting ejected late in the game and en route to the Vol lockerroom displayed "an uncomplimentary hand gesture" to the Memorial Gym faithful.

One thing of note here is while the game was at Memorial in Nashville, it was Tennessee who wore the "home white." In a goofy, and almost embarrassing cost measure upon reflection now, prior to the 1975-1976 season the SEC voted for teams to pack home and away uniforms for road trips. For the most part, teams played Saturdays and Monday nights--either both at home or both away. In a "cost saving measure" to avoid having to wash uniforms, the home team would wear dark on Mondays and the road team would wear white. This stayed true the following two seasons but ended in time for the 1978-1979 season.

Cool, impressed at your knowledge of the Tennessee Vanderbilt basketball rivalry. (That may seem sarcastic but it's not )

Oh yes, the Bernie and Ernie show. Back in the days of Stokley. Still have an SI somewhere, I think, with those two on the cover.

True story, was coming back from G'burg once and stopped in K;ville and Ernie was in this bar/grill. There was a girl he was talking to at the bar and then a drop dead blonde came up and I could tell she introduced herself because they shook hands and he had this look like "who are you". Long story short, Ernie left with both of them.

Its hard to get laundry done on the road, especially when the washing machines were garbage and most schools would not let you use theirs.

We used to offer to do traveling baseball and basketball teams laundry just as a service and it usually helped us out for favors when we returned the trip. Sometimes the other teams will pay you for it also, I would take that cash and spend it on my student managers.

Thanks. Grew up a Vandy fan. Dad went there and was class of '60. Used to go to 'Roy Skinner Basketball School' each summer.

I've heard that from many a Vol who attended UT in the 70's or early 80's (when his exploits were still legendary.)
