Mizz-SEC,
My honest opinion is that everybody stretches the rules as far as they can. Papa Sam bought and paid for all those UCLA teams and they still have all the banners. If UNC cheats in academics and Duke pays folks under the table everybody looks the other way because they are UNC and Duke.
Oddly enough, Cal probably does not have to cheat in the age of 1 and done. Kids are not their long enough to have to be paid to play for 3 or 4 years and Cal certainly seems to have the NBA pipeline so kids will play for a year for draft pick status. If Mizzou was caught with their hand in the cookie jar I view the southern way differently. Circle around and protect your own.
