Watching ESPN late last night, every single one of them thought tOSU is a lock

I'm surprised at that. All the talk about conference champs has just been forgotten by the same people (B1G) who were crying about it for years.

But I guess I'm ok with this situation for one reason - the reason it's so important to take conference champs is that it keeps us from getting too caught up in "eye tests" and ensures that teams that may not look as great or get so much attention can represent their conference. So as long as the Big Ten is putting in one team, that's ok. If they put in two at the expense of Washington, you've left out the Pac 10 just to put in a two loss team. That would be bullshite. Put in Ohio State or put in Penn State.

By the way, the last time everybody was talking about the Big Ten having the best two teams in football (or at least two of the top three) was when Michigan lost to tOSU, barely missed the BCS, and the Buckeyes were raped by Florida. Just a reminder about "eye tests"

They'll change their tunes next year if the SEC has a chance to get two teams in. Then conf champs will matter.

Should be BAMA, CU, UW, PSU.

I don't think that's the case. They really needed either Clemson or Penn State to lose. That didn't happen and since they aren't conference champs, they could be heading to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl.

I don't know that they SHOULD be left out, but I can't believe it's not a consideration. Taking tOSU and leaving out Penn State is hard to justify. But taking both is even harder to justify, and most people think Ohio State is the second best team out there.

This is really easy, Penn State is not a top 4 team, period.

The actual mission of the Committee isn't to put 4 conference champs in the playoff, as then you wouldn't need a committee except to leave out the Big XII. The mission, as stated in their protocol is to choose the 4 best teams in country.
