No. He was a better baseball player. Maybe if he had only played baseball, he would be in Cooperstown.

Real question... would Bo have been hands down the best if he had just played Football instead of splitting his time with baseball?

Herschel and Bo are a push to me, both great

No doubt his career would have lasted longer. Shame he went down the way he did. Classy player, great athlete.

UGA won. By your logic, AJ is twice the player that Herschel was.
Not really. You have to take statistics into consideration, too.

IMO...
Herschel was the best running back ever.
Bo was the best athlete (and the best baseball player) ever.
I love watching footage of them both.

Did he gain the most yards rushing?
Yes.
Best running back?
No.
Saying Herschel was better than Bo is much akin to saying that Emmitt Smith was better than Jim Brown.

Possibly. Why do you think Bo was a better RB? What do you base it on? Eye test? Feeling?
They both had great power. Herschel seemed to have more speed. Not arguing your point with you....just wondering why you think Bo was a better RB.

LOL, no it's not. It's like saying Barry Sanders was better than Jim Brown if anything. Or Gayle Sayers was better than Sweetness.

Pretty much everyone in this thread disagrees, including all the non-UGA fans.

No would we think higher of Bo if Dye would have switched to the I Bo's Sophomore year?
That would have put both in the I for 3 years instead of 3 and 1. People forget that Bo ran out of the bone for 3 years and that he split carries due to the offense.

Bo was fast. I guess I am basing what I am saying on...it seemed as if Herschel beat the angle more. Bo seemed to have a tad more power...but Herschel ran away from pursuit. People had the angle on Herschel many times and he pulled away from them anyway.
Bo's fastest time in the 100 meters was 10.39
Herschel's was 10.24

You may have noticed that was a mild troll (even though I was expressing my actual opinion).
Why do I think Bo was better? Because he had enough carries to surpass any significant variation in statistical mean and had a higher career ypc than HW as well as lower rushes-per-TD (i.e. he scored at a higher rate than Herschel did).
Herschel's career ypc was 5.3. Bo's was 6.6.
Herschel scored a TD at an average of every 20.3 rushes. Bo scored a TD at an average of every 15.1 rushes.
Their receiving stats are comparable (HW - 26 rec, 243 yds, 3 TDs, BJ - 26 rec, 272 yds, 2 TDs).
So why do I think BJ > HW?
Because when you put the ball in his hands, he gained you more yardage and scored more often. Isn't that what running backs are for?

I really don't know. I DO know that Herschel had a lot more carries than Bo. Might have been because Bo ran out of the wishbone.
Any way you slice it, they were both GREAT running backs. You would normally say that they were "once in a lifetime" running backs, but they both played in overlapping years. It would have been scary to have played defense in the SEC back then.

Bo is awesome, Herschel college football career is unquestionably superior. Every serious ranking reflects this.
This doesn't prove Herschel was better by any means but it's worth mentioning: Herschel Walker never lost an SEC game. Not one.

I don't mind people trolling me! I troll you guys a bit, myself. I don't think Parkjas likes me very much for a troll thread I took part in.
Everybody will have their own opinion, and I don't really think it matters. They were both running backs that any team in the history of the sport would love to have had. If you drafted an all-time college football team I think those two would be the first two running backs taken. Auburn and Georgia were both blessed to have had them in their schools. Both seem to be classy people and good representatives of their schools.

I consider it my greatest privilege as an SEC fan that I was able to see with my own two little blue eyes BOTH of these guys play in person (as a student), one of those games (1982, UGA at AU) in which they both participated.

It's close....let me ask you this, if you suddenly got the reincarnation of either Bo or Hershel to play RB for you, would you be happy with either? I would, both were great.
