IF there was ever any real question as to the answer of the OP's question, please note that someone just compared the situations of Fran and Dinardo.

But it is about Dinardo. People tend to think that Saban walked into a an easy situation like Les Miles did. However, Dinardo went 4-7 and 2-8 his last two years. He burned that program down to the ground and Saban had to build it back up from scratch. He not only dominated LA in recruiting but also made LSU a national player for recruits. He went 13-1 national title and then 9-3 his last two years. Saban then had to follow Dubose, Franchione, Price, Shula at Bama. That's why he is college football's no. 1 coach. He made LSU a national power and brought Bama back to being a national power. Urban's tenures at UF and OSU were much, much easier. If i'm an LSU fan, i would give anything to trade Miles for Saban.

Gerry Dinardo brought in talent to LSU. He just couldn't coach it. Saban walked into a better situation at LSU than the one he walked into at Alabama.

Saban was also a more experienced and educated coach when he came to Alabama. I tremble thinking of the monster LSU would be if Saban were still there.

Franchoni was hated by the majority of Texas High School Head Football Coaches. He had zero charisma with the High School coaches. Mac Brown and his charisma came along. You have to be "tight" with the high school coaches.

Honestly, after Fran bailed, I wish we had just kept Torbush as head coach. Alabama still would have been bad, but it at least wouldn't have been the shite show it turned out to be. And we still could have got Saban in the end.

He had three fatal flaws.

1. He had no idea of the the enormous potential he had at Alabama.

2. He wasn't big enough for the Bama job, but few are.

3. He realized that there were easier places to make a living than in the SEC.

Do you think that the negative press he got caused him to loose the good players in Texas that he would have landed otherwise?

The "Smoke Draw" in 2002 was damn near unstoppable.

I don't know about that. DiNardo brought in some talent to LSU, but hired the worst defensive coordinator ever and then let his ego get in the way of changing things. He f'd the team psychologically (the fans as well). LSU won a total of six games under him in his last two seasons. I remember Saban preaching to the players and fans when he got to LSU about the "catastrophe syndrome" and how everybody needed a new thought process.

People forget that Bama was 10-0 and #4 in the nation with just two games left in Shula's 2nd to last season. And it took a great effort from LSU to beat them by 3 in OT that year to give them their first loss. I think they finished his last regular season at 6-6. So he wasn't a great coach, but he had decent talent and his team/fan base didn't need a psychological overhaul like what Saban had to do at LSU.

As for Franchioni, I can only say that he was a 5-star cock hole.

I've said it before and I'll say if every time fran gets brought up. If a&m and bama start up a competitive series, we need to get a trophy going. The winner gets a statue of Stallings jumping into the bears arms after the cotton bowl, loser gets a bust of fran that they have to take with them to every game
This is the greatest idea I've ever heard on the rant. This needs to happen...
