Not a bad Idea. I'll be watching and with Labor Day the next day and no NFL football that weekend I don't see why more schools dont do it to get exposure.

Vols have to be a what 4 point underdog?
Posted on 4/8/14 at 3:53 pm to socraticsilence
Last I checked the lines weren't out yet but being at home I expect us to be an extremely slim favorite

Normally I'd agree just on sheer talent- but no returning line starters+a Darkhorse Heisman guy leading USU
Posted on 4/8/14 at 4:34 pm to socraticsilence
Well it's sort of misleading bc several of our linemen have a decent bit of experience such as Marcus Jackson who has started 5 games and was named freshman all American by Phil Steele in 2011 FWIW. Corey Vereen has had a good bit if playing time on the defensive side along with a couple of others with several games of experience
we lack experience for sure but it's not as lacking as having zero returning starters makes it sound

I think the OL will be just fine. Not as productive, but good enough to move the football. We've recruited well there, and have a handful of guys with meaningful experience.
The DL has me VERY concerned, but we've, without a doubt, upgraded at LB and DB. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I remember arguing with Vol fans (among others) that said they would NEVER play a Thursday night game and that "programs of their prestige level" only play on Saturdays.
What gives Vols?
What gives Vols?

From what I can tell from lookin over the roster the Dline is certainly a bigger area for concern, after Vereen and Salisbury (if you count him) they literally have no experience

Well it's on a Sunday before a national holiday not a Thursday before a workday so it's really two entirely different things
On top of that we have played on Sunday a couple of times before, I can think of twice in the last 15 years off the top of my head but it's always the night before labor day

I mean, we're playing in primetime, on national television, the night before a national holiday.
Sunday(this one in particular) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Thursday

We've played a Sunday Night Game once before and it was awesome. It was against UNLV and it was also Labor Day Weekend - we switched Boomsday to Saturday and the game to Sunday and Knoxville had one helluva good weekend. This should be the same.

If anyone said that, what a silly comment.
While I certainly wouldn't want our AD to make a habit out of scheduling such games, there's something to be said for a non-Saturday game every now and then.
National spotlight & a different kind of energy from the crowd.
College football--any day of the week--is a damn good thing.

Because they all have a say on when the game is played?

Yeah I can see that. Thursday is a logistics nightmare for some schools.

First game of the college football season (thursday)>>>>>>>>>>>Your Sunday game between a has-been and Utah fricking State. Y'all can build it up all y'all want but in reality, no one gives a shite about that game.
Posted on 4/8/14 at 4:56 pm to CockRocket
The reality is no one GAF about any game that doesn't include "their" team. So, I'm missing your point.

You obviously give a pretty big shite about it given all the bitching and moaning.

Cool idea, but it's going to be a big embarrassment for UT and the SEC
