Sources: Less than a year after its last infractions case concluded, Tennessee is under NCAA investigation again. The inquiry covers multiple sports and is described as "major."

Sources: Can confirm Sports Illustrated report that Tennessee is under NCAA investigation. The investigation is tied to Name Image and Likeness violations.

The investigation puts Tennessee in the crosshairs as a repeat violator from recent NCAA ruling in July of 2023 from violations from former coach Jeremy Pruitt’s tenure. Tennessee’s argument in the case will be tied to vagaries in NIL rules.

The NCAA is investigating Tennessee for what are believed to be alleged major violations related to NIL dealings. The case centers around quarterback Nico Iamaleava, the No. 2 QB in the Class of 2023.

NEWS: As sources say Tennessee faces multiple Level 1 and Level 2 violations, the school’s chancellor fires back at how the NCAA is handling NIL investigation. In letter obtained by ESPN she calls NCAA allegations “factually untrue and procedurally wrong.”

quote:

Chancellor Donde Plowman also calls NCAA enforcement “intellectually dishonest” for pursuing infractions amid a changing rules landscape

quote:

Tennessee appears to be fighting a charge of lack of institutional control. Plowman: “It is inconceivable that our institution’s leadership would be cited as an example of exemplary leadership in July 2023, then as a cautionary example of a lack of institutional control only six months later.”

Now we have some details on Tennessee, via @nytimes. "The investigation is focused in part on the use of a private jet by a so-called donor collective to fly a high-profile recruit ... to campus.
Collective: Spyre. Recruit: Nico Iamaleava

The University of Tennessee is immersed in another NCAA investigation of potential rules violations that is “major” in nature, sources tell Sports Illustrated. The case involves multiple sports and includes scrutiny of name, image and likeness (NIL) benefits for athletes.

No, it isn't.

The number of people who don't understand NIL amazes me.

They heard the University of Texas was giving out Lamborghinis and they misunderstood it as linguine and now they have a problem with an impermissible meal benefit.
