Reggie White, Derrick Thomas, Patrick Willis, Glenn Dorsey....all better in my opinion.
I'll give you White and Thomas. Willis is debatable, but Dorsey isn't close. Dorsey was just another player on an incredible defense with a lot of 1st round picks. Clowney is the other teams main focus all the time despite playing with a lot of people not on his level. All of the above went on to have excellent careers except for 1...it's not a coincidence why.
I am a little too young to remember Thomas and White and how they were after their true sophomore seasons but it would be hard to imagine either of them being what Clowney is at the same age.

eric berry was fantastic as well.
My argument isn't about good 1st round picks because there are plenty of those. I am talking about a national consensus on who the #1 overall player is in the country. The fact that it's a true sophomore in Clowney is my point and I can't remember anyone else having that type of credibility at the same stage.

You could not be more wrong. Luck only ever considered a few schools. His main focus was academics and then football. LSU was never in the pic ever despite what some on here say. His choices were Stanford, Northwester, UVA, and Rice.
It was a little of both. He was never seen as a 5 star, consensus top player in the nation like Clowney, and he also shrunk his recruitment to an extent by limiting his decisions to a few prestigious institutions.
However, the comparison still doesn't hold any weight. No one would have called Luck a 1st round lock coming out of high school. Everyone thought that about Clowney. He redshirted, and no one would have called him the top overall pick after his true sophomore year like people are with Clowney.
I will say I agree with some who say Clowney is probably the best prospect since Reggie White, but hasn't been as consistently dominant as a player yet. Sure he's had his moments. He dominated Clemson last year and had the huge hit against Michigan, but even in that game he was largely nutralized by Luwan outside of that one play.
