turned out to be a great game - both teams looked pretty good for season opener

What game did you watch? Horrible defense for both teams. Finesse City from my sofa. OM going for fake punt from their OWN 30 yd line? WTF? Thats a sign you have zero confidence in your defense to stop anyone. Vandy has crappy OL and DL...effort is 110% but they are undersized on both sides of the line. Both will be six to seven game winners in my book....Stout teams will blow em up. Vandy will surprise a team or two because of the effort level...but they need beasts on the DL.
The game was a pillow fight.

There were too many bad calls and no calls last night. I guess the refs need to get better too.

I think he meant it was a great game in the entertainment sense. Yeah, fundamentals and discipline were amiss and Vanderbilt's second half defense was terrible, etc. etc. but the game was intense and exciting. I'm glad I watched the game.

The officiating may have been bad, but that's not what I blame for the Vanderbilt loss. Vanderbilt should blame themselves for losing. They lost the two most important battles (scoreboard and turnovers) both in part due to several dropped or missed picks. This loss falls on the Vanderbilt defense by far; they had plenty of opportunities for a game changing or sealing turnover.
