Just telling it like it is brah.

They're the white trash group of the state.

We are not.

Columbia is a growing metropolis of wealth and resources, great city to raise a family.

Clemson is a podunk town near a lake where the Klan holds rallies daily.

Unfortunately this is a football forum, and they're way better at football.

Columbia / Richland County probably has the largest number of poor people in the state.

few non-student Clemson fans actually live in Clemson. focusing on the location of Clemson to ridicule Clemson fans makes no sense.

Clemson has some of the highest rated elementary / high schools in the state, and among the best landscaping /s treetscaping in the state, so 'podunk' doesn't really work.

Clemson is also the highest ranked public university for academics in the state so trying to associate it with rednecks doesn't make any sense.

Clemson should be thought of as an upscale mountain lake resort with a university.

btw, a ton of Clemson fans live in Columbia, and grew up there but went to Clemson for college. Clemson has students and alumni from all over the state and country. it isn't a community college.

the woman at CU who said that was obviously disgruntled about something. even if true, an employee should never make his or her employer look bad in public.

i'm not sure how a university reducing class sizes, etc to meet the criteria of US News is fabricating. it is an easy way to move up in the rankings and every college can do the same thing.

another thing US News uses in its rankings is alumni giving, so Clemson has asked alumni for money and specifically mentioned the more alumni give, the higher CU's ranking will be. Every alumni wants their college to be highly ranked, it helps when applying for jobs.

"Clemson should be thought of as an upscale mountain lake resort with a university."

AlecRock23 - you completely missed reading or slap out ignored ^^^ this ^^^ gem

Pickens & Oconee County both have a higher poverty rates per capita than Richland County. his comments are a slight to high population of blacks/minorities who live in Richland County by saying "largest number of poor people in the state". Pickens & Oconee are also the most 'white' counties in our entire state.

Texas Aggie alum Bill Lee Atchley, former President of Tillman's school from 1979-85, summarized the school best in his last few days - "When academics take a backseat to athletics, you have a problem. You no longer have an institution where people with integrity want to teach, or where people with common sense and good values want to send their children to learn."

poor Bill Lee was ran out on a rail by the CUBOT after their drug scandal broke loose in a Sports Illustrated article in 1985. one athlete died. 3 coaches plea bargained out of jail time, and the university demanded Atchley's resignation for wanting to clean up the Ath Dept with a proper investigation. SLED was eventually forced into action on their campus due to the publicity of the death of the track star. this was also immediately after a football probation had ended and another NCAA investigation into Danny had begun.

we've got cemeteries dating back to the 1600's here in Charleston with less skeletons than the Upstate school.

~ now get ready for all the orangenecks to try and refute, deflect & deny all the ugly about which that institution was founded and operates upon still today ~ they can't help themselves.

per capita stats are dumb. there isn't much population at all in Pickens and Oconee country. per capita stats make small population areas look worse than they are.

obviously there is a much higher number of poor people in a more urban area. I never broke it out by race....i note that you did. I wasn't slighting anybody, i was just pointing out it is odd that SC fans try to make Clemson out as poor but ignore poverty in Columbia.

moreover, Clemson is much different from the rest of Pickens county.

i'm not sure how quoting a disgruntled former president means much. i don't think good athletics has to come at the expense of academics, and Clemson has a strong engineering and architecture reputation, and many parents do want to send their kids to Clemson.

Clemson isn't 'the upstate school'. that implies it is a community college. it is a state and national public research university. you appear to be a Columbia sidewalk fan of SC and you didn't go to college because of the way you talk about state universities.
