LINK

for the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the first game at Hawaii. Vandy will be able to schedule 13 games due to opening the season at Hawaii. Likely to play 2 FCS teams that season from the sound of it with other OOC games with Norther Illinois and Wake.

Pretty pumped for what likely will be my first trip to Hawaii now that I have a good excuse to spend all the $.

I read the article and see that this game will basically be "week zero" by starting 1 week earlier, but why not just have a 2nd bye week? I guess having 13 games makes it easier to become bowl eligible, but it just seems like adding one more game is, i don't know...odd.

I could see that re: taking 2 bye weeks. Personally though I would rather see VU either try and schedule a MAC level team or just play 2 FCS schools for player development & of course the likely W's (I mean we have been to 4 bowls in the last 6 years but as a VU fan I'm all about accumulating wins).

Makes sense. Nashville has gone crazy for Mariota. They want more Hawaiians.

I recommend the trip. We had a blast when Alabama played out there in 2002.

They did.

If there ever was any doubt, the fact that the game was scheduled a week after the Iron Bowl was rock solid proof.

It was a 'frick you' we'll make our own bowl game (that nearly backfired when Hawaii went and made a game out it in the 4th quarter).

It has more to do with Mason's connections in recruiting. It's smart recruiting move for him to schedule those games.

You should have a Commodore cruise from LA to the game. Any Vanderbilt fans know if you are building a new football stadium?

Yep, I was a bit surprised that Hawaii wanted to schedule Vandy to come out there since VU has put such a big emphasis on recruiting Hawaii and Polynesians in general the last few years. Last year we signed a poly DT from California and Sean Auwae who was the #3 player in Hawaii and a 4*. This cycle there's 3 Hawaiians visiting this weekend Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa, Miki Suguturaga & Feleti Afemui who are all in that state's top 10. Sounds like we will land Afemui, Myron T is a strong possibly & Suguturaga is a LDS kid so even if he committed it would be after a 2 year mission before he got to campus.

If Mason keeps winning more than he loses & makes Bowl Games semi regularly this would be a great recruiting tool for the program...

Hella carrot to hang out there for recruits starting with the '19 class...

Cal opened with Hawaii last year and chose not to play the next week giving them an extra bye. Who could blame them? The game was played in Australia! Hawaii chose to travel all the way to Michigan and got beat 63-3.

Old Misses won't have a football program by then so it's still 12 games

Hopefully they will have renovated Aloha Stadium by then because right now it's a worse dump than Legion.

Secondly ... hope that your Dores take the game seriously and not go over there with a beach party mindset. Many aainland team has and many a mainland team has been upset in the process.

Hopefully the new train from Waikiki to Pearl will be up and running by then.

Remind me and if I'm still alive I'll put all Dore fans onto the secret locals' spots for eating and drinking.

Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa,

Is that Tua's stepbro or something? Or is that a common Hawaiian surname?

Everybody beat Bama in 2003. After holding the rope and then meeting our Destiny, we were lucky to just field a team. I was talking about 2002 when we actually had a decent team.
