The University of Tennessee athletics department inappropriately pressured officials in charge of campus discipline and exerted undue influence that placed students and institutional integrity in "peril," according to a former vice chancellor.

The biggest income generator at the school should always have influence over whatever aspect of campus life they so choose.

I can't stand academic pussies that feel like they have to be some noble do-gooder, whistle blowers.

The Tennessean is FOS. They know UT can't legally defend itself or even speak on the matter when it comes to details. And it's laughable to say Cheek is pro-sports. Fulmer at the height of his power complained that the admin, including Cheek wasn't giving an inch (unlike most school's UT rules on a case by case basis and tells atheletes and coaches to frick off all the time). It can actually be more difficult for athletes to get in because we don't use special admits - Fulmer raged about that but it did no good.

Also, I've taught there. I disciplined a big name footballer and a big name basketballer (disciplined them the same as regular students and they faced real consequences). NO ONE INTERFERED! And the coaches in question were two of our most powerful of all time.

FWIW, I also had FANTASTIC footballers and roundballers that I'm so damned proud to have taught. They were also big names but to me they were just students to be proud of.

Not at all. This is just clickbait for locals and the CFB world since we're getting popular again. I can swear to you it's BS. We are one of only 2 schools in CFB that doesn't use special admits for athletes.

Cheek dreams of turning us into a top 20 public uni (something I'm all for). He's a hardass on a lot of things including sports but at least he's somewhat fair.
