This Saturday at the UT/UF game, UT will honor the 60th anniversary of the school’s 1956 SEC Championship team. Team Captain, former head coach Johnny Majors will be honored individually, as well.
In 1956, Majors was named SEC Player of the Year for the second year in the row. Also, he received All-America honors and finished as runner-up for the Heisman Trophy that year.

Was that the last team to beat Florida?

Irrelevant story about those old timey jerseys (i.e. the one he's wearing in the first picture), they always looked like they were tucked in so tight because they had flaps that went under the crotch to hold the jersey on, for example:

More blacks were lynched in Florida than any other state. Did you know that?
And are you saying -- I know you don't think very clearly - that Knoxville was some bastion of apartheid in the 1950's?
Or did similar conditions prevail in other places?

used to work with a guy on that team, Bill Lanter (bottom right). Great guy. Always had great stories about Majors and Neyland -- who was AD at the time.
