Two very even teams - home field advantage helped push the Cocks to victory. Well played game all around really fun game to watch.

I watched as much of this game until I had to get inside for UF-UK....but looking at boxscore one thing jumps out at me...contrary to usual stats, UGA held almost 100 yd advantage in rushing yds which meant they should have won...but the reason they didn't? Turnovers.

What are you talking about? They had zero turnovers to our two...

Dog fans pulling for Auburn? USC Goes 6-0 in the east, UGA represents with one loss (to Auburn).

That would be two losses for both...

I was laughing at this two. Those two teams are pretty damn even. Neither one has a particularly decent defense. Both have decent offenses. If you say that UGA is a bad team after that game, you pretty much have to say the same thing about USCe because there wasn't much separating the two on the field.

USC held a +/- 100-yd advantage over UGA for about 70-80% of the game, but racked up that advantage mostly through the passing game of Thompson in the 1st half. Thompson went into halftime 19-26 for 240 yds and 3 tds, but was only 2-4 for 31 yds and 0 tds and 1 int in the 2nd half.

IMO UGA's primary defensive gameplan to start the game was to stack the box against Davis and force Thompson to beat them. For the 1st half, he did quite substantially. Then (again IMO) in the 2nd half, UGA does an about-face, focuses on limiting USC passing game, and looks to run the ball more keeping their own offense on the field and keeping USC's offense (and Thompson) off of it. This was similar to how they played Clemson, when Gurley had only 4 carries in the 1st half against them but stormed in the 2nd half....

Against USC last night, Gurley had 8 rushes for 44 yds and 0 tds in the 1st half. Like UGA, USC's defense forced Mason to be UGA's offense, and he went 9-12 for 132 yds and 1 td in the 1st half. He goes 7-10 in the 2nd half which indicates UGA used him with balance, but those 7 completions only nets 59 yds, although with 1 more td. Gurley rushes 12 times for 87 yds in the 2nd half, with 1 td. Meanwhile, USC's Brandon Wilds rushes 11 times for 92 yds and 1 td in the 2nd half, which negated Gurley's effort.

USC rode it's 1st-half 11-pt score cushion in the 2nd half, and benefited from 2 missed FGs and some poor play-calling on UGA's behalf. But that's why the games are played....

I called this....it was a must win for South Carolina. I didn't think Georgia's win over Clemson was as great as it looked on paper and I didn't think our loss was as bad against A&M. We just didn't match up well with them. I liked our match up with Georgia.

Those teams with the spread do seem to eat your defense alive, but our offense wasn't really the issue either. Out first half against Clemson was the way we played in both halves against USC. Nearly impossible to win in a hostile environment when you make some of the mental mistakes we did.
