(15 yds from spot of foul) If after a fair catch signal, receiver muffs the kick, he must be given an unmolested opportunity to catch the ball before it hits the ground.

The ball bounced off the hands of the Ole Miss receiver into the arms of the Vandy defender immediately before it hit the ground. He could have recovered it once it hit the ground but not before.

Look to see that rule changed. It impacted that game in a major way and the spirit of the rule isn't designed to penalize a player like that.

Just my $.02...

I don't think you are reading that right. Once the ball is touched it is a live ball.

Yup. In this case, that rule proved incredibly stupid. It is the rule though, unfortunately.

No he is reading it exactly how the rule is written and that's how the officials called it on the field as well. They had no issues making the call they made and since the player wasn't even close to our returner it's obvious as to why they made the call they did.

I'm not saying I 100% agree with it but that is the written rules.

Nope.

He's correct.

Not a live ball until it touches the ground.

When a player signals for a fair catch he forfeits any possible positive return. In doing so he is to be provided the opportunity to catch the ball unmolested.

Btw, thats a touchy word to the Vanderbilt football program.

The Vandy fans understood the call last night because they can read. It was the Lsu fans getting all rustled and starting threads.

Bad break for Vandy, but technically a rule.

If it hits another payer, that rule is null and void and the ball is free. One he muffs it into another player, as long as the player was over a yard away, then there is ni kick catch interference.

My guess is he was within a yard, or they gt the call wrong, wasn't watching.

It would be a touchy word for your program if anybody on the team could spell.
