Yes it was 2001. In 1998, they probably would have resembled jello, since Tennessee won

It was in 2001 and LSU scored to make it 31-20, sealing the game. That explained the long face.

It was 2001, look at the highlights

The crazy thing is that UCLA and Kansas State were both unbeaten and ahead of Tennessee and Florida State in the BCS standings before both losing within minutes of each other. Then all of a sudden, State took a 4th quarter lead on Tennessee and it would have been total chaos because you would have had four 1 loss teams (UCLA, K-State, Tennessee and Ohio State) for the second spot in the title game.

I don't remember the order...but I do remember that aTm beat Kansas State (freakin Mussberger kept talking about "Automatica Gramatica) and UCLA lost to Miami in a game that was rescheduled due to weather (I think there was a Hurricane when they were originally scheduled).

Funny thing was that aTm won with Brandon Stewart at QB...who transferred from UT after losing out the QB battle to Manning.

I thought Lulu and Junior were from the '01 SECCG.

1998 for me.

Tee Martin and undefeated Tennessee trailed Mississippi St late in the 4th quarter only to score two TD's in less than 1 minute. What a game.

That was the story the entire season. The 1998 team was full of stars but it also had a very blue collar work ethic. Despite all of the future NFLers it had the attitude of 'no stars on this team.' They had many close games but they never let it get to them. They just kept grinding and somehow, some way, they'd come back and win the game every single time. It was beautiful to watch an undefeated team in action.

That said, overall they are a very underrated team and that was very good SECCG that's often forgotten about.

I was at that game. The moment was just too big for MSU with a freshman at QB. Had a hell of a defense that season.

It also gave us Lulu and Junior.

No, Lulu and Junior made their debut at the 2001 SEC championship game between Tennessee and LSU. At the moment when LSU scored to put the game away 31-20 in the final minutes.

the 01 game is under-appreciated IMO

Changed directions of both programs if looked at long term and really hit UT hard losing that shot at the NC

If you'd told me the day after I wouldn't believe you, but it really is staggering the direction both schools have taken since that game.

UT was right there with UF as a dominant, top 5ish national program in the 90s while LSU was garbage for most of the decade. UT was poised to take on Miami in teh title game while LSU was just happy to be there, then LSU won of course. LSU has gone on to win 2 national titles and 4 SEC titles (including that one) while UT hasn't won any SEC titles (only 2 division titles) and has floundered in coaching mediocrity while LSU has been one of the best teams of the 2000s.

Crazy what one game can do to two programs.

07 was right there with it. Vols had a chance to exact revenge and make themselves relevant again. Then Eric Ainge went colorblind, threw a pick 6, then threw another pick in the red zone in the last 3 minutes.

In both 01 and 07, the Vols beat LSU during the regular season, but choked in the title game.

07 was a good game. Not special or great though IMO. But it was a tight close game, which can be rare in the title game.

and LSU UT didn't play in 07 regular season. UT beating UGA that season got them to Atlanta.

1994 SEC Title game
I was 8 and I remember being on the edge of my seat before Barker threw that last pick.
Even at 8 I was wondering why Stallings didn't go for 2

I stand corrected on 07. Played each other regular season in 05 and 06.

Best chance for a non big-6 to win the SEC and fumbled it away. Knew right when it happened that game was over. McFadden I think threw a pick on a wildcat play and Dick threw a pick to close out that game.

That was a great game to be at. I hate that we lost, but to look back at all the talent on display that night in the Dome was impressive.

To think the outcome was placed on the shoulders of a 5'6" punt returner still pisses me off. That game had so many momentum swings it was ridiculous. Each defense would dominate, then the offenses would have their turns. Even in the loss, it was a great game to be at.

Arkansas and UF were both loaded as frick that year with talent.

Arky would've did the same thing to OSU that UF did.

It was Hurricane Georges that rescheduled that game, and Edgerrin James went off on UCLA that day. UCLA's run defense was so, so bad that year. It was bound to cost them eventually and it did that day and then in the Rose Bowl when Ron Dayne set a bunch of records on them.

LSU-ut in 01- great game. LSU knocks off number 2 Tenn with a backup qb. I remember watching that LSU team play in the dome and saying dam, I wish Saban was our coach.

Bama and florida 92- just a timeless classic. Shane freakin Matthews still gives me the shites to this day. He was impossible to stop.
