With the success of Cam Newton in 2010, Manziel in 2012, and Jameis Winston last year, newcomer QBs now have a lot higher expectations and hopes. The bar has been raised higher and the pressure is there.

But I do not forsee any newcomer SEC QB to make an impact like the 3 QBs listed above. I am not saying the SEC newcomer QBs will suck, but they will not be earth-shattering and make a run at the Heisman or 1st Team All American honors.

The SEC QBs that contend for OPOY will be the returners, i.e. Nick Marshall, Matt Mauck, Jeff Driskell, Dylan Thompson, Bo Wallace, Dak Prescott.

Coker at best IMO will be like McCarron, a game manager, not anything flashy. Seeing him on preseason Heisman lists and such is a bit disturbing.

Kyle Allen will show signs of promise but as a true freshman adapting to the SEC defenses will do his fair share of failing as well. I don't care how good you were in high school the jump from Arizona high school ball to SEC defenses is huge.

Hutson Mason will be no where near Aaron Murray in any way, in fact of all the newcomers I am least convinced about Mason.

LSU will miss Mettenberger IMO. This will be a transition year at QB for sure - similar to how they were under Lee and Jefferson.

Anyway if you are looking for your messiah in the form of a newcomer QB this year you will be let down.

You may be right, but way too soon to tell. Did anyone even know Manziel this time 2 years ago?

You're making it less obvious, which is definitely good. This a pretty significant improvement from where you were a few weeks ago honestly. You still need to be more succinct and let the troll flow better from start to finish. It jumps around a bit. Good effort to end the week though, we can pick up where we left off on Monday. Lots to build on here

Good point, but the odds are not in favor. For every Manziel or Winston you get a Kiehl Frazier.

Similar to Lee and Jefferson my arse. This is the first competent QB coach / OC Miles had had. Add one of the top Olines returning.

Manziel was a 3 star that played hs ball in Kerrville. It's not like he went to Southlake Carroll. And he came in and shredded everyone. Kyle Allen is a 5 star and a top ten recruit according most services. I would say he definitely could be a breakout newcomer in that offense with those receivers

If you have solid players all over your offense, and good coaching/ play calling, then you don't need a messiah at QB.

Exactly. But JJ was terrible. OP should be ashamed to compare anyone to that.

There is no guarantee the Allen will even start. Kenny Hill has shown a lot of poise and confidence and is running the offense well in what little of practice we have seen. Allen will come along, but Hill might give us the best chance of winning early.

Dylan Thompson has shown signs that he might have a pretty lively arm. obviously his playing time was limited because of a guy named shaw. 5 years in, he should know the system in his sleep. do I think he could contend for opoy? no. do I think he might suprise a few naysayers, yes. it all depends on his surrounding cast. davis and a very seasoned offensive line will help. Dylan throws for 1600 yards.

I watched Manziel a lot in High school. He put up 75 touchdowns his senior year and single handedly beat the #1 team in the state (Cibolo Steele, led my Malcolm Brown) that year as well.

He was a national player of the year. Only reason he wasn't more highly ranked in recruiting was his size.

I watched Manziel scrimmage the spring before his Heisman year. I have never seen a player improve so incredibly much in one offseason.

A commentator saying we won't have another breakout newcomer QB is full of shite, because the truth is no one except maybe their coaches know.

Wait LSU kicked off the heir apparent veteran 5 star QB leaving a group of guys not yet groomed to be starters?
