Was it a gay for pay play?

If thespians were getting paid then maybe the players were disgruntled at not being paid to play sports.

mbogo ... No one is telling them they can't hold their own viewpoints; they're being called out for allegedly behaving like obnoxious buffoons when they should've been conducting themselves (publicly, anyway) as gentlemen.

O, Mississippi... just because it's a lot harder to be racist, doesn't mean y'all have to do this.

Outside of the South they view it just as much as a southern problem as an Ole Miss problem, rightly or wrongly. And that goes doubly for people associated with schools that associate with Ole Miss.

I'm not saying that's right, I'm just saying that's a perception that's out there by a lot of people.

No nor is it a negative reflection of Mississippi.

Maybe the people in Cleveland should be embarrassed over the guy that imprisoned 3 girls for ten years. Maybe the people of Connecticut should be embarrassed over the pyscho-hooker that tried to crash the White House today. How about the teachers and the professors of UAH, should be feel ashamed because some nut-bag killed her colleagues?

I refuse to take the blame or even feel slightly embarrassed over other peoples actions that I have no control over.

You may, however, self-absorb all the guilt you choose. I won't even judge you. I may laugh at you for being a short term dumb-arse but I won't judge you... permanently.

I guess all I can say to you Drac is if it makes you happy to feel embarrassed and ashamed over the actions of some 18-25 year old dumb-asses then have it. Hell, I'm sure you can find at least one story a day to be ashamed over if you search hard enough.

Drac is spot on. That's exactly the way people think here in Indianapolis. If you don't care, then that's great. But the reality is that all of us are associated every time something considered "backwards" is done in the South. Ole Miss is not thought to be specifically more racist than the rest of the Deep South, to people in the Midwest.

Guilt is the wrong word but I do tire of having to defend the south when I travel up north as I do frequently because both myself and Ms DS have family up there.

This shite does not help.

From Neal McCready on Twitter: "Ole Miss' office of student affairs, not the football staff, is handling the investigation. The football staff will support findings and respond accordingly. Media expecting a football staff to conduct an investigation are being unreasonable at best...By the way, there are some pretty strong sources saying Ole Miss players "involved" did nothing more than laugh during the incident. No one's condoning said laughter, but if that's all that happened, it's not exactly the capital offense some in the media are accusing"

So basically an independent investigation will occur (no 'in house' cop-out), but it is already looking like nothing more serious that general boorish behavior occurred. Run them hard and use it as an opportunity to teach them about correct social behavior. Too bad the DM will never print a correction

UPDATE:

Talked to a former student (I'm a HS Teacher) who is attending OM and was at the event. He Said the whole thing has been blown WAY out by the media. Said there was some "snickering" and a few outburst of laughter but never any anti-gay comments or "slurs" used. Dude said it was because most of the people at that particular show were in the intro to theater class and the acting was pretty shitty so the crowd was laughing about it and the tones the actors and actresses were using. Again people in plays over do it sometimes and if the people were not used to it then yea I could see where that would be funny. Once again someone somewhere wanted to drag Ole Miss down the drain and used a play about a gay guy as the bait which made it as easy as Lindsey Lohan after a night on the town.
