In the 1986-87 season the college basketball game was revolutionized via the introduction of the three point shot. Since then the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels are one of two teams to have made a three in every single game they’ve played. The Rebels declined postseason invitations this season, ending the year holding the NCAA record of 974 consecutive games with a made three pointer.

With 16 minutes to go against Stony Brook, Tyler Ulis found Derek Willis and the Mount Washington Machine drilled Kentucky’s first three pointer after the team had started the game 0-7. The bucket made it 974 consecutive games with a made three pointer.

Living vicariously through other teams?

Well that's predictable.

This is an amazing stat, but does it really matter? As long as UNLV picks up again with their first game next year, the most they would be from "breaking" the record would be 5 games.

One thing I don't get is why UK is trailing UNLV if both have never gone a game without one. UNLV had their runs in the 90s, but with UK's continued post-season success wouldn't ya'll be ahead by a handful of games? Or does UNLV play a few more games each season?

Wouldn't I still be living vicariously through other teams if I rooted for Kentucky?

Probably has to do with our probation soon after the line was added in collegiate play and scheduling.

Vandy's ended at 942 apparently.

Incorrect, Vandy's streak is intact and continuing. Vandy, UNLV, and Princeton were the three that had made a 3 pt shot in every game they have played since the rule change. Not the same thing as the longest streak.

That's because UK was not the other team referred to. UK's streak dates back to a game against Seton Hall in Nov 1988. An Eddie Sutton team, they missed the only 3 pointer they attempted.

When you consider that the average number of threes a team takes per game in D1 has been over 10 since the early 90s, it isn't surprising so many of these long streaks exist. It's almost impossible to take 10-20 threes and not make one.

You would be shocked what a Trent Johnson team can accomplish.
