Texas' secondary is very good. I don't know about comparing them to UF's or Alabama's...but they are very good.
Their two corners, Chykie Brown and Aaron Williams, are as good as any tandem in the nation, and IMHO better than Bama's tandem of Arenas (who is overrated) and Jackson.
Their third corner, Curtis Brown, was a 5-star coming out of HS.
Now...Haden and Jenkins are very good...it would be hard to top that tandem. But this group comes close.
Their safeties are far superior to Bama's. One was a Thorpe award finalist (Earl Thomas) and the other is a rangy strong sider (Blake Gideon).
Bama would be remiss to underestimate this group of DBs. They finished #23 in the nation in passing defense in a pass happy league (teams threw on them 40 more times than teams threw on Bama). Their yards per pass average is only .3 yards more than Bama's.
Again...all of this in a league with better QBs and better passing attacks than the SEC had this year.

yet their pass defense is usually suspect.
It is not suspect this year. They had one poor game against Texas A&M (which happens to be a top 10 offense) and that deflated their stats.
Their yards per pass average is only .3 yards more than Bama's, and .1 yard BETTER than Florida's.
Suspect, my arse.

This year, I would say a push. IMO, Florida's secondary took a huge step back this year from last year except for Haden. Haden shows up for every game, but everyone else was inconsistent.

texas has a better Secondary. and A&M had the 5th rated offense in the nation so that kills that arguement.

^Disagree. I live in Texas and watched every single Texas game this year. Texas, much like Florida had one guy that stood out in their secondary this year, Earl Thomas. Florida had Joe Haden. Gideon is out of place quite often and Williams got burnt quite a bit this year. I would say it's a push if anything.

yea... I think I was pretty fair in my assessment though.

I'd take Alabama's secondary over anyone. Eventually people will realize this.

We also have possibly the best pass D in the country as well. Look at the QB ratings vs our D.

I thought they stopped even trying to rate QBs when they play us?

They might as well.
We put QB's on lock for the most part.

While we haven't faced a QB AS good as McCoy (Taylor, Mallett, Tebow were the closest), I feel really good about how well we will shut down the Texas O.

They won't even get a yard. NOT ONE.
We will win 63-0 and we will have our 5th string in by the start of the 2nd half.

Star Jackson will be in by 10:30 left in the first.

How can anyone say Javy is overrated as a cover CB. Name one play this year he was burned on... I don't think he's given up a passing TD has he?
Posted on 12/16/09 at 3:33 pm to JB Bama
Wasn't he schooled on the Nelson TD in the SECCG?
Posted on 12/16/09 at 3:34 pm to JB Bama
Because they are stupid. Javy got beat on one play all year and it was in the KY game.

Thank you Lamp. When I read this post, I smiled, remembered what we've done this season, and don't fear McCoy anymore.
