think how great we had things prior to ~2018 when we didn't have to worry about shite like this in amateur athletics. Those were the days.

All I know is that if there's ever a boycott from the players then it'll be the easiest decision I've ever made to drop tickets for college football.

UAB football does not make enough money to support itself

It's kind of like professional women's sports — you don't ever watch it, but you don't have anything against them, and it's sort of cool when your local team is doing well, but suddenly when they start complaining and bitching to be "paid just like everybody else," you're reminded of how they wouldn't even exist without your subsidies, and then the more you think about it you just kind of wonder why they can't support themselves and why they're even doing this if the community actually doesn't care (even though they said they did), and geez why am I still paying for their program to flounder around when they just see me as the enemy?

UAB is an extremely progressive liberal university.

Part of the problem is that the “community” is largely made up of Auburn fans who don’t actually care one iota about UAB outside of whether or not they feel like they can stick it to big bad daddy bammer.

It was one big inferiority/victim complex unison. A match made in heaven.

They were loud enough to get some attention and then abandoned the program just like everyone else.

Only 10 yrs ago 65% of UAB's Athletic Department revenue came from subsidies. I can't imagine much has changed in the last decade.

Exactly what kind of money do their players think they are going to get from UAB? How does a program share profit when there aren't any? UAB athletics isn't self-sustaining, they damn sure can't afford to pay their athletes.

Damn this is a dumb take.

Ok, explain why bama did everything they could to keep them from starting a sports program, has killed coaching hires, killed the football program, and refused to play them in football or basketball?

Why doesn't AUM have a football program?

Why are you boogs holding AUM back?

And yet here they are, playing in a new football stadium with a new practice field and a basketball arena that's much newer than the one in Tuscaloosa. Poor pitiful UAB.

Not if they become employees and not student athletes.

Just so you're prepared

If you make them employees then you have to make every student athlete an employee and if the money is being spread out between all the athletes then non P5 schools won't be able to afford to have athletic programs. Most schools don't really turn a profit on sports. Making the athletes employees is a lose lose situation. Allowing them to be student athletes and make money on NIL is the best we can hope for. I do think there needs to be some actual performance necessary to receive NIL money but that's a different conversation.

You absolutely do not. Title IX would not apply because it wouldn't be filled with students anymore. Best you could hope for is some small percentage of them actually happen to attend.

actually, bama fans look classless when they say shite like this. Disband a schools athletic program? Why? Because you felt threatened by UAB?

Have auburn go ahead and start a D1 football and basketball program at AUM and I might start to think about caring about your opinion.

I think AUM has basketball.

I think we’ve played them.

I guess if they want football, have at it.

AUM is perhaps closer aligned with AU.
I know they hold AUM classes at AU as sort of a pathway to admission.

They are NCAA Division II.

Go ahead and subsidize them becoming D1 in football and basketball.

Why must Auburn keep AUM from having a football team? This has been going on for decades. Think of the kids. Shouldn't they have a chance to play D1 football?
