It seems that there is something of a consensus regarding the staggering number of commercials during games this season. My father, wife and I tried to keep count during the UGA/USC game and in the first half there were somewhere between 70 and 80 commercials. Its been bad for years but it is especially bad this season.

Our son was at the game with some friends and he said they thought the game was delayed because of the weather there were so many abnormally long delays for commercials. Several people I have talked to mentioned people leaving the game because of the delays and they rumor in the stands was that it was weather related. Anyone else experience anything like that in person? I know it is nealy unwatchable on TV because of it...I can imagine how miserable it would be to sit in the rain for 10 minutes out of every 15 with no action on the field...

Every stoppage of play for timeout or injury is 3 minutes of commercials. It is terrible, especially when you are at the game. I blame ESPN and Disney greed.

I've been wondering what it's like to be at a game with all these commercials.

They are killing the game.

There was one stretch with a commercial break for four straight plays.

It’s brutal. “You see that SOB on the sideline with that damn timer board set at 3:00, or worse, 3:10 and you just want to strangle the cocksucker”. At least that’s what the 80 year old Church Lady told me.

I don't like it but I do understand it. The conferences demand hugely expensive contracts from the broadcast companies compared to previous contracts. These contracts have to be paid for and commercial revenue is how they earn money.

Agreed. It’s brutal. However I do like the new multi-screen feature on YouTube TV, so when the commercials are on I can at least switch to that mode and watch another game or two without missing any action in my game. That’s helped to mitigate my displeasure with the volume of commercials.

I don't think it's greed. ESPN is on the ropes, and is on the hook to pay the SEC gozillions of dollars. They gotta make our money for next year!!!!

And the worst thing is, where’s the Home Depot commercials? Napa know how? Guy changes his oil and kills the bear. It’s gone, no whopper whopper whopper whopper commercials. Not many fansville commercials either.

The games I've been to this season all have the timre/clock to tell people in the stadium how much is left. I feel like even 2 years ago it was max 2-2:30 minutes per commercial. Every one at the backyard brawl was like 3:30 minimum

I only went to one game and man it kills any excitement that builds. Fans are dead by the 3rd quarter. It's brutal.

OP is talking about a CBS game, ESPN wasn't involved in OP's game.

I'm usually watching one main game I'm interested in with 3 more games as backup. When a commercial comes on I hit the recall button to switch. Lately all four games are in a commercial break.

They have no reason to change if people continue to watch.

They don’t demand they just take what they can get.

However, they need some blame. At this point they need to protect their fan experience at the game and put stipulations on amount of commercials.

I used to watch several games on Saturdays, but now I can't stand it. I will watch the UGA game, but unless there's a really really big game coming on, I'm done. So in that sense, they have lost viewers.

Until a lot more develop this mentality, the destruction of college football will continue at breakneck pace.

There certainly was....at one point there was almost 9 minutes between plays being ran and then for the next 2 plays there was almost 3 1/2 minutes each until the fourth play which continued for a couple of plays without commercials...but for a solid 15-18 minutes there were 4 plays ran. It was unwatchable.

People do not have the attention span they once did...they are unlikely to continue to consume TV programming that includes ANY ads, let alone is a preponderance of ads. I know that it is unthinkable but if it is not corrected CFB is doomed. It will have a minscule audience compared to what it has had if the BS continues...
