I once had the pleasure of sharing a table with his dad, Bill Byrne, at an A&M Club banquet about a year before we announced our move to the SEC. Of course there were rumors, so I asked him point blank what he thought about the SEC. Bill Byrne told me that the SEC is the most backwards of all the conferences, and that SEC fans are the worst and stupidest in all of college football, and that A&M was "above" associating with anyone in the SEC. And that A&M would fit much better in the PAC because their fans are more cultured and refined. Thankfully, the decision was made by wiser folks and was made way above his pay grade. He actually wasn't even involved in our decision to move, and was ultimately forced out because he didn't support our move to the SEC. I will say that moving to the SEC is the best thing that has ever happened to TAMU. The fans are great, the competition is at the highest level, and it is a very well run league. Hopefully for y'all, he isn't like his dad.
