You ain't lynig man I laughed so hard the other day I almost shite my pants after reading this

quote:

J.Chavis "The third year of me being the coordinator at Tennessee, we won an SEC championship, the fourth year we played for and won a national championship. LSU, the third year, we played for a national championship. We are as talented now as when I was at Tennessee or when I went to LSU. We will be improved, there's no question about that. It's not a lack of talent. We have work to do, but we have a ton of talent that fits places in our scheme."

I've heard giving the fan base some hope but holy shite, the crash and burn on that will be epic.

it's almost like it's easier to recruit faster, more athletic defensive linemen in the South

Please, for the love of God, don't turn this into a fricking Chavis thread.

Cliffnotes plz

Arkansas has no elite talent on their defensive line. They have 8 average guys, none of which can distinguish themselves as any better than the other average guys.

They have 8 guys and regardless of the combination of players in the game at any given time, they will be average.

Didn't have any elite talent on the defensive line last year and they did ok. Top 10 defense, back to back shut outs, etc.

As opposed to having "elite" DL talent and a losing season to show for it like Mizzou did a few years back?

well yea, it's a safe bet every team in the SEC hopes Arkansas doesn't have the best d-line in the conference

Doubt and hope are two different things. But please continue with your troll.

I am not going to look but what is the advanced stat ranking on the defense? Is that top 10 in total yards? The stat is totally meaningless in this day and age.

Darius Philon & Trey Flowers were both 3 star recruits. And this staff is now getting better raw talent to develop. These fools on the rant think recruiting rankings are the end all be all measurement of talent. Probably because their coaches routinely squander their top 10 recruiting classes.

They were top 10 in scoring defense. The one that does matter.

The bottom line is win total. Scoring defense is a little better than total yards. I looked at FEI and they ranked the defense at 19.

ETA: S + P is at 6. Guess it depends on what you value.

We can't all play in the PAC12 with a down SC.

Playing in the SEC West hurts the win total - no doubt. However, playing in the Pac - 12 hurts the scoring defense. That's my point. Leach is airing it out down 40 with his ones in against your 3s and walkons. That is why I prefer a metric that captures the importance of the points given up.

I love what Bielema has assembled in Arkansas. I actually prefer power football over spread.
