If you're going to let one guy (Lowder) control the program, might as well pack it in.

The biggest downside to all of this is that Lowder (and a couple of his cronies like Jimmy Rane) have the money to pretty much cover the cost of CTT's $6 million buyout themselves.

Auburn's Athletic Department is spread pretty thin as it is, with the new basketball arena, contracts to coaches that are still being paid even though they aren't on staff (Franklin, Borges, possibly others) and I don't see the AD having the money to buyout the contract and bring in a proven coach.

If Lowder or someone else on the board of trustees were to foot the cost of the buyout, that could easily lead to a lot more problems, and not just on the athletic side. One of the reasons the university was put on probation by SACS (and risked losing accreditation) was that the BOT members were too heavily involved in the operations of the school.

As an alum, I fear that a BOT member stepping in to finance a coaching change could do more than just hurt the on field performance - it could in all honesty bring SACS back and cost Auburn in the academic arena as well, and that is a scary thought.
