I'll say this for Auburn, they damn sure won't sit back and pay a HC +$4mm/yr and watch him field a team that can only muster up 3 SEC wins in 3 (THREE) freaking years.

Worse decision

You were looking for the word "worst", and you'd still have been wrong. Tubs was done. Quit recruiting at a high level and personal problems had his care level pretty low too. I would say moving on to Chiz (even tho he personally wasn't great, he did orchestrate the right mix of talent and staff) turned out just fine for AU. Yes, they went 0 for the SEC one year, but at least they got a Championship. What does Arky have to show for their 0 for the SEC season?

Worst decision in auburn athletic history getting rid of him.

Mother frickin upvote.

They should have followed in the footsteps of their big brothers and let a Arkansan build them to a dynasty.

Forget the aforementioned upvote.

I'm just trying to understand why auburn keeps regressing in the coaching department. Only thing I can think of is that their boosters are giving less money to coaches and more money to the bag man. Interesting strategy

Yea, all you have to do is look at the 2008 recruiting class, and some of the 2009 recruiting class. Two of the weakest I have ever seen with any college football team. 2008 was Tommy Tuberville's last one with Auburn, and Gene Chizik and Gus Malzahn (and the rest of the staff) tried to fix the 2009 class but weren't given enough time.

Tommy Tuberville: SEC Championship in 2004
Gene Chizik: SEC and National Championship in 2010
Gus Malzahn: SEC Championship and National Championship game appearance in 2013

?

Where is the regression? Auburn wins with any coach.

You're just confused on perspective. I can understand that when you're on the bottom and have no where to look but up.

Took Tuberville a full decade (1995-2004) as an SEC HC to win his first Conference title. That was also his first season with double digit wins. This, during a period when his coaching competition in the SEC West included Terry Bowden, Mike DuBose, Dennis Franchione, Mike Shula, Danny Ford, Houston Nutt, Gerry DiNardo, David Cutcliffe, Jackie Sherrill, and Sylvester Croom.

Gus won the SEC on his first attempt. Won 12 games that year too.

If Tuberville > gus, then how much better is Tuberville than Bert?

What about an SEC Championship?

Will Arkansas ever win one of those?
