We retaliated with an ugly protest jersey that was partially orange and partially white.
I remember that. Orange on the shoulders, numbers on the sleeves. They crammed about as much orange on those jerseys as they possibly could and still stay legal.

Yep. It was either the AD or Coach who ordered that thing up and had it designed precisely as you say - as much on there as possible to stay legal.

That would have been Bill Battle.

quote:Alabama had a city by 1711, while TN was still a bunch of wheel-less Indians and an occasional fur trapper. No TN a-hole was responsible for this state's development, unless you want to claim that POS Anderw Jackson, and if so, go for it. That would be fitting.
Neither your state nor your school would exist without Tennessee
quote:Yes, during the Civil War it provided the Confederacy with 7 generals, 25 colonels, 14 lieutenant colonels, 21 majors, 125 captains, 273 staff and other commissioned officers. They spilled blood in April 1865, when Croxton's raiders sacked the town and burned the university.
A cadet corps in 1865? How cute.
quote:Did I equate it to shite? Sorry, I meant to say it was shite. And I'm glad y'all went with the color a daisy. Admitting you're a bunch of daisies is the first step.
And that COLOR you equate to shite is the color that symbolizes those Volunteers
quote:UA was a military school from 1860 until 1902.
Although the university had always been a quasi-military one
quote:Great! Scalawag assholes. One more reason to curse the ground y'all walk on.
UT Knoxville remained as a military garrison for a period of six years, until 1877

Very cool thread. As much as I hated UT in the 90s and early 00s, I miss the intensity of the rivalry. UT has fallen on some very hard times.

It's always weird to me when I see a picture of Bear Bryant without the trademark houndstooth.

This thread gives me chills!
Wouldn't be complete without this one!

You don't have your fan flag flying. Thought you were an Aggie with your cadet talk.
As for all the wars... we sent troops to all of them and our university was destroyed in the Battle of Knoxville. Ironically there was a confederate soldier in that battle named Peyton Manning (no relation). Our university was rebuilt with 17k in federal funds because we were the only southern state whose Senator and reps and VP/Pres stayed in congress during the civil war. Oh and because we were largely Union and our university president had been a unionist.
Our university is two years older than our state.

I love threads like this. We have some old timers in here that bring a lot of historical info that I appreciate.
We're heading up in the RV with friends tomorrow night, enjoy the Fall scenery and great weather - take a bourbon tour and head over to Knoxville on Friday.

If it was then UT Coach and now Bama AD Bill Battle that did those protest jerseys then now may be a great time to get our schools to agree on the home jerseys and petition the NCAA on it. Between your AD and our AD (who is a former Bammer Basketball player) it's not like these guys don't know what TSIO means to us as fans or how much fans would love seeing the jerseys return.

Some things never change.
This one is from 1956 (Bama originated) and reminds me of your comment about the fall and easy living on these beautiful weekends:

I have the Tennessee version of the hat Bear is wearing in the top pic.
We need to have fans from both fanbases to email the AD about the jerseys. Prof will you be our representative?

UF/UG both used to wear home unis too. I think it's coming back next year.
