You know I'm just giving y'all a hard time. Truth be told between the two teams our defense could only dream of being as potent as Bama and LSU. I think we are on the right track.

Definitely. Look at the stats and that's all you need to know. It's unfair to compare almost any defensive unit to the two GOATs defensive units, however.

Scoring defense
2011 Alabama - 8.2 PPG
2011 LSU - 11.3 PPG
2013 Alabama - 13.9 PPG
2013 LSU - 22.0 PPG

Rushing defense
2011 Alabama - 72.2 YPG
2011 LSU - 90.1 YPG
2013 Alabama - 106.2 YPG
2013 LSU - 143.2 YPG

Passing defense
2011 Alabama - 111.5 YPG
2011 LSU - 171.4 YPG
2013 Alabama - 180.3 YPG
2013 LSU - 197.5 YPG

Passing TDs allowed
2011 Alabama - 6
2011 LSU - 7
2013 Alabama - 13
2013 LSU - 15

Total YPG allowed
2011 Alabama - 183.6
2011 LSU - 261.5
2013 Alabama - 286.5
2013 LSU - 340.7

TFL
2011 LSU - 106
2011 Alabama - 96.0
2013 Alabama - 69.0
2013 LSU - 69.0

Opponent first downs
2011 Alabama - 10.1 per game
2013 Alabama - 14.9 per game
2011 LSU - 15.1 per game
2013 LSU - 18.9 per game

Opponent third down conversion percentage
2011 Alabama - 24.5%
2011 LSU - 34.0%
2013 Alabama - 34.7%
2013 LSU - 38.3%

Opponent redzone attempts
2011 Alabama - 10
2013 Alabama - 25
2011 LSU - 26
2013 LSU - 35

Opponent plays of 10+ yards
2011 Alabama - 75
2013 Alabama - 126
2011 LSU - 151
2013 LSU - 167

Worth requoting. At the same time its awesome and a shame that the 11 squads had to compete against each other in the same year. There was no doubt who the two best teams were that year.

To Auburn's credit they have had some pretty nice offensive teams that somewhat rivaled these defenses.

I can't say about Bama. As for LSU, they looked soft this year, but that could be because they just weren't as good as the previous years.

This is crazy.

Teams only reached Alabama's redzone 10 times in 13 games? Am I reading that correctly?

IMO neither 2013 LSU or Alabama were soft relative to the rest of CFB. Far from it to say the truth.

I do think compared to their own standards they were softer teams in 2013. That probably had a lot to do with having talented QBs who threw a lot more than previous years.

Id look for both Alabama and LSU to go back to a more power run attack in 2014 with better defense.

You are reading that correctly. However, that doesn't take into account a long play from scrimmage in which the ball carrier scored from outside of the 20 yard line.

stat speaking wise I think our O and our D this year were close to matching the same numbers as those years except maybe the 11 D. We missed not hang a Jesse Williams type in the middle.

It's true, because if you hit somebody too damn hard the refs throw a flag. If you lower your shoulder and hit somebody and the ref just thinks you may have led with your helmet, he throws a flag. And it's going to get worse.

This is unquestionably true IMO. I think a lot of it has to do with experience/talent along DL and OL. Look at Bama OL in '13 v '12 or LSU DL in '13 v '12
