This goes back to his HS days. Family members with their hands out looking for money.

And unfortunately it did not start or end with Trent. Leeches are probably responsible for more athletes going broke* that any other cause.

*at least TR says he isn't broke. He got a guaranteed 20 mil. Hopefully he has enough safely invested to carry him through life.

ehh. advanced paycheck loans are probably number one.

A lot of top guys are taking out 50%+ apr loans prior to them receiving any significant money

The problem is these kids are surrounded by a lot of people who have never had anything, and they think that a pro football player is like bill Gates or something...like it will never run out. If trent made 5 mil on his initial contract, that ain't enough to support the neighborhood. If the dude was prudent that money is enough to live off of, especially wit good investments, but I'm not shocked, I knew he was probably in financial trouble.

Right. But when you were raised on nothing and now have more money than you could ever dream of- literally enough money you can buy just about anything you wanted, and a family member asks for a few grand- I can see how these players give out the money. To them, with no financial background, it seems like an unlimited amount of money that will never end, so why not throw some money their way?

Not saying that's what I would do, but people have to realize these guys have gone through a more drastic financial lifestyle change than any of us could possibly comprehend, all around the age of 22.

Did you make your best financial decisions at 22?

Bama's AD has counseling and advisors to help these guys prior to the draft...they bring money managers, accountants, attorneys to give these guys advice about what to do.....yet they still frick up.

The NFL also tells them and tells them and tells them... yet they still frick up.

And it sounds like, from the linked article, he did have a manager that was telling him... and it sounds like he ignored him.

Sounds to me like Trent is regretting what HE ALLOWED to happen.

I have been able to associate with several pro athletes in Nashville. It is unbelieveable how many folks cling to these people and milk them for everything they've got. Uncles, cousins, girlfriends, some people they don't even know. Chris Johnson had a posse of about 30 that followed him everywhere

You would think that these athletes, who didn't have much growing up, would be better with their money. It's really sad how many athletes end up broke, in such a short period of time, after their playing days are over.

Anybody dumb enough to give away a million dollars didn't really need it to begin with. No pity from me Trent.

He's James Bostic stupid. I'm sure did his due diligence and went to those classes where the NFL provides free financial counseling to rookies.

He should be grateful for the Money he still has and be careful with it.

Browns CEO said he doesn't anticipate the holes like an elite RB. At Bama he didn't have to. The BIG UGLIES made holes for him. It's all about the O line.

There was an espn special on him as a rookie and they interviewed him in his house and there were probably 15 people in there walking around like they owned it. I knew that night what was happening. I think it's actually a pretty common theme.

Vince Young is another example. He had a relative managing his money. He was broke. Sold his name to some guy who opened a steak house in Austin.

He would be homeless today but Texas University created a job in the Athletic Department that pays him $100,000 a year.

Last I heard he filed a law suit against the relative but all he will probably get is a judgement because the money is gone.

He helped by spending thousands every time he went to the Cheesecake Factory in Nashville and buying all the tickets on Southwest Airlines to fly from Nashville to Houston.

I hate to say this but JFF could be next.

PacMan was the same way when he was in Nashville. My brother would see him in places and he always had 12-15 posse members with him.
